Lovely old hotel with character. Situated opposite the sea with several small beaches nearby. Very close to the railway station and plenty of buses stop outside the hotel. Nice reception area and the staff are very welcoming. We had a Seaview room with a double bed. The entrance to the room has a small area where the wardrobe and kettle are kept. The bedroom itself is ample along with a separate bathroom. There is also a telephone and television. Although the windows are not double glazed there is no noticeable outside noise. The 1881 restaurant is good and standard of food and service is good. Buffet breakfast has plenty of variety. Outside there are areas for sitting and relaxing. There are gardens to walk through. The bar overlooks the sea and Torquay. A good experience and would consider staying here again if in the area. All the staff were pleasant and helpful.

Room tip: Plenty of parking both in the hotel and surrounding areas. Have a Seaview room -it us worth the extra money.

The Shackleton Association had picked the "Grand Hotel" in Torquay , as the organiser had visited the Abbey Sands Hotel , (Also part of the Richardson Group) , 5 or 6 times in recent years . The hotel is but a minute away from the station , and there is plenty of hotel car parking if you choose to drive . The ambience of the hotel is such that one could well imagine Agatha Christie spending her honeymoon there . The views from the sea view rooms are spectacular , and the staff cannot do enough for you .The catering was exceptionally good ,and the decor in the public rooms was appropriate to the style of the building . Everything met our expectations in all respects . It was a great place for a week-end party like ours . Highly recommended, and would gladly visit again .

Room tip: A sea view is well worth it

We booked this hotel after a bad experience with another hotel in Torquay, as soon as we arrived we were greeted with such warmth and friendliness from the reception team and throughout our right up to check out, nothing was to much trouble for them and they always greeted you with a smile.
The room we stayed in was a one bedroom sea view suite and although it was dated and a little tired in places it was spotlessly clean and very well maintained.
The view was amazing and the space was fantastic.
We ate breakfast at the hotel and we were very impressed with the quality and the selection available.
We also ate in the hotel’s restaurant twice in the evening and the food was very good quality, reasonably priced and the atmosphere in the restaurant was wonderful.
I would like to mention one staff member (Vlad Ignat) he was absolutely amazing, his attention to detail was fantastic he really cared for his guests and worked extremely hard to make sure we were happy and content while we were staying with The Grand. We will be returning and would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Room tip: Railway station over the road is perfect location for exploring, go down for breakfast early.

Booked afternoon tea with excellent service from Hannah and Jamie, both a credit to the hotel. Sandwiches and cakes were just enough with lovely scones to finish us off completely.
Lovely table by the window with great views.

Great views from the our table. Looking over the beautiful bay of Torquay. Great sevice and very attentive and welcoming staff. The afternoon tea was great too. We only ordered 1 set to share as we were not that hungry. It was a good decision. The cakes were good and the sandwiches too! The scones were still warm and the jam and cream was fabulous. Will definitely come again. Recommended.
