The entrance is beneath the largest cantilevered building in Europe, and from the moment you step inside to be greeted by the ships' figureheads hanging above you, it's a delight.

There is so much to see and enjoy that I can't even begin to describe them all. The exhibits are so varied, imaginative and beautifully displayed, and there's even a woolly mammoth!

Please, please go - you won't regret a moment spent there.

I was really looking forward to this visit as I have followed the construction closely awaiting its opening. However I was disappointed with the display of the minerals from what is an outstanding collection. They are on display behind the Woolly Mammoth on a stand reaching up towards the ceiling so they could not be seen easily. There was no way to see where they came from or to admire their colours and form. Considering that the UNESCO World Heritage Site is the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Heritage Site, it is sad that more was not made of this. I was also disappointed with the display of artworks, again I remember the previous layout had a number of Cornish painters on display. On the plus side the figureheads were impressive and the displays on the history of Plymouth were very good.

Absolutely wonderful. Loads to see providing an interesting and detailed story of Plymouth past and present. The exhibitions are first class and the staff are very friendly and helpful and all for free. This place a must to visit!

Lovely new venue to explore for Plymouth. Excellent history of the city brought to life through its worldwide connections and influence. Lovely shop and the cafe is great - lush food and really great staff.

Good to eat food produced by new Head Chef. Very cheerful and welcoming waiting staff. The starters, arancini and lamb spring rolls were stand out. Needs to be full of customers as the space is a bit austere despite wonderful ships figureheads. Incredibly good value.
