Not the cheapest to get into , but well worth the extra to climb the tower. The views are amazing on a clear day. It's all climbing narrow staircases , but average fitness should manage it.

A really interesting place to wander around. Make sure you visit the lady chapel and try to create an echo! We did the octogon tower tour which I would highly recommend as long as you don't mind tiny winding stairs, small doors and heights! A really lovely visit and don't forget the tea rooms. Also wander around the area as Ely is a lovely place, especially down by the water.

A wonderful cathedral to visit. The history soaks out of the walls, and you would need two or three visits to really take it all in. Very interesting to read about the early Catholic beginnings and their influence on the building and the town of Ely. Lovely grounds, and a very pleasant tea-room. If you have time, take a walk down to the river afterwards. It is glorious!

Loved the personal tour guide offered as part of the cost. Entirely charming and knowledgeable guide. The Cathedral is both beautiful and fascinating. Loved our visit.

There were signs outside saying that the Cathedral was closed for a service until 3 pm. it was 3 pm and people were being allowed in, so I pushed on the door only to be told to stay standing just inside, which I did. Others, however, were milling about. I'd been hoping for a spiritual visit and was absolutely willing to respect the service. It would have been better to close the Cathedral completely or for someone to stand outside to speak to visitors if this was going to be the greeting. Very disappointing and not a spiritual experience. No wish to return.
