Cotto has become a real favourite with my family and friends over the last few years and moving to the Gonville has given it a venue to match the culinary delights which are served up.
Last week I took some business colleagues to Cotto for dinner and all 5 commented what an excellent meal they had had. One of them went as far to say it was the best meal he had had since leaving France in 2012 ! Praise indeed. I think.

I have heard people rave about Cotto but I think the experience did not deliver. Service was pleasant but not top-notch (not attentive enough, mistakes, and at times no service at all); no tablecloths so it makes it feel less special. Bread is great as is the butter with truffles. And the desserts were very good (chocolate piano, cherry parfait and the apricot tarte) and creatively designed; however, there were certain elements (the mini toffee gold squares) that were not necessary and threw off the balance of the plate. The rest of the meal was hit or miss, mostly miss. The starter and main courses were filled with trendy touches that simply did not improve the taste. Vegetables were standard, prepared without imagination. Lots of repetitive flavours (some of which we truly could have lived without) and there were too many edible flowers on every dish. Venison was good but that's about it. Seasoning was not sophisticated. A very expensive meal that was good but not great. We left feeling disappointed---maybe an off night for a normally very good restaurant? Not sure but won't be back to find out.

I was looking forward to this visit for my birthday dinner. The service and the food very good although I must say the main
menu has changed little in the past 12 months. Sweetbreads and Kidneys are great but not everyone’s choice! I chose crab as a starter which was excellent and Venison for mains was delicious. I asked if there was any chance of Strawberries (not on the menu) and they said yes. They were lovely too. Is it pricey? I think is it is good value for money. Wines were a reasonable and a really good choice. Listen this place is classy and top drawer and they have chairs that are comfortable too, unlike some restaurants who go for style over comfort.

Amazing food with everyone waxing lyrical about their favourite courses afterwards, particularly, the cherry parfait and chocolate piano with keyboard which were almost too artistic and creative to spoil by eating but impossible to resist for long and absolutely delicious!

We appreciated the welcome on arrival and arrangements made for disabled parking access with a quiet area for dining so that all three generations could enjoy the conversation. Our thanks to Mari, Ruth, Alex, the chef and their team for making this such a special celebration.

We celebrated my partner's 50th birthday here and the ambience and setting was first-class. The service afforded to us by the staff, particularly the manageress was outstanding. The food was extremely tasty and presented with precision - art on a plate, but enough to satisfy. We had a most enjoyable experience and would most certainly pay a return visit.
