Owner description: Pulau Koaba, which is also known as Kalong Island (Fruit Bat Island), is a low-lying circular island measuring 500 metres across and appearing to comprise a core of taller trees surrounded by dense mangrove. At dusk, the sight of thousands of bats leaving their roost and heading for their feeding grounds is a magnificent spectacle.

You have to see see this to believe how many flying foxes make the journey to the mountains each night. Sitting on your boat you have the pleasure of the sunset followed by the exodus. Fits in well at the end of a visit toto one of the pink beaches in the area.

Worth visiting. Had enjoyed it for a brief moments before the sun was totally setting and it became dark. It was a 10 to 15-min captivating moment where pink sky, groups of flying foxes were continuously moving, boats and the sea were captured in one sight.

We ended a day of snorkeling by lying on the deck of the boat watching the flying fox (I think they're a kind of fruit bat) fly out of this small mangrove island and head to Flores in search of fruit. As the sun sets, hundreds if not thousands of them fly overhead. It's quite a sight!

Kalong island is mostly mangrove trees where thousands of fruit bats live. Every day at around 6 pm, just after sunset, thousands of these flying foxes, fly to the mainland, Flores, to feed. It is an amazing sight to see, and the sunset itself just adds to the beauty.

Best time to visit in the late evening when the bats are flying out to search for food at night. Can hire a sampan to get to the shore and take a short walk to take a closer look at the creatures
