As we prepare to leave Guana Island, my heart and thoughts are with the wonderful people we met on this trip. Beautiful, strong, resilient, and optimistic describe each person who shared his or her story in the aftermath of last year’s hurricanes. These were personal stories and professional ones, and it is clear that the staff are working to rebuild with a team bond that is unbreakable. Vernon and Andrea lead a talented and dedicated crew.

Angel was a very helpful tour guide and assistant from the moment we arrived. Chelsea always greeted us with a smile and was ready to help or just visit anytime we wanted to chat. Jamal proudly showed off the orchard that he and his team are building, stronger and better than ever. Stacey and Candia ensured we enjoyed every morsel our before us at meals, serving with pleasure and smiles. Chef Kael delighted us with his creative use of island herbs, fruits and vegetables. Laverne, Paula and Paru made sure our stay was comfortable. Hakim made the best Pina coladas ever, even delivering them to us in the ocean! Lissa ensures that our last day was completely relaxing by providing much needed massages.

All of the best parts of Guana are coming back, with improvement and upgrades too. I am amazed, and honored, that we got to visit during the soft re-opening month of August while they are still rebuilding. We were the only two guests here for six days, and it was spectacular. We will be back! #bvistrong

The news from Guana Island is all good: our beautiful hideaway is back and thriving. As frequent return guests, we were grateful to be among the first visitors back on the island since it was hit by Hurricanes Irma and Maria last September. We can happily report that as the island continues to rebound, the resort is in many ways better than before as a result of improvements and upgrades implemented during the repairs. The new roofs on the main building and our favorite villa are higher, the spaces are brighter, and the fixtures and furnishings are brand-new and gorgeous. The sands of White Bay Beach are now wider than before the storms, and the water has never been clearer. Best of all, Guana has retained its fantastic staff -- the finest in the Caribbean -- who, led by Andrea and Vernon, are to thank for bringing the island back. The food, always excellent, is even better now under head chef Kael who is passionate about showcasing the fruit and produce from the island's lush orchard. Our visit could not have been better; we can't wait to return again.

Post Irma. Rooms have been completely redone, with new bath fittings, new furniture, air con, beds. Farm to table cuisine is made possible by the reconstruction of the on island orchard and food production. Guana Island retained its excellent staff during the reconstruction, and everyone was obviously over the top happy to see guests returning. Food was excellent, salads from the orchard plentiful and of great variety. Beach is beautiful, spa great, staff incredible.

Again, no thumping music, no night life, no screens, no phones, no crowds. If that is your scene, this is not for you. Instead, imagine your own luxurious island, with fabulous meals, incredible staff, and serene views in every direction. Great people, great food, serenity. That is Guana.

Not for everyone (thankfully), but perfect.

Probably the best place I've ever visited. The hospitality on the island was fantastic. Everyone is incredibly friendly. It was quite a trek coming from the UK but worth every minute. The ride was finished with a jet boat over to the island which we did at night, the sky with all the stars was magical. Our villa was clean. The style and décor is low key and unpretentious. We stayed in the room by the infinity pool - wow what a view. there was so much to do on The island, it turned out to be a very active holiday. The hiking is great. The beach is a 15 minute walk away as the hotel is elevated however there are taxi buggies to escort you if you don't fancy it. The beach is very well equipped with canoes paddle boards etc. There are changing rooms on the beach and a nice bar. The snorkelling was fantastic, again all equipment provided. We went on a snorkelling excursion which was well worth it. The food was absolutely fantastic! I am a big foodie and every meal was something to look forward to. The buffet breakfast is rich and very varied. Lunch was again a buffet with salads fish meats and lovely desserts. Dinner was a 3 course meal. I would go back again for the food alone!

Very low key, like staying on your own private island, with a fabulous staff. Food was excellent, with portions and menu choices that were excellent and intelligent. Seven great beaches, 12 miles of trails, luxurious but very simple rooms, L'Occitane bathroom amenities, great bar. Don't go if you want a scene, other people much around, or throbbing music. Go if you like candle lit dinners in the trade winds overlooking tranquil seas and yachts at anchor. There is an excellent spa, and Lissa aka "Hands of Steel" is a great spa therapist (highly recommended, and we are picky). Zero complaints. Quiet bliss.

Room tip: We stayed in North Beach Villa, and Harbour Villa. Both excellent, and very different.
