Loved our stay at Elephant Hills

Review of Elephant Hills
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 12 Mar 2024via mobile
Elephant Hills was everything I hoped it would be. Our guide was Yaya and she was lovely, friendly and full of information. We stayed for 3 nights and enjoyed all the activities. Seeing the elephants was obviously the highlight for me and we both enjoyed hearing about them, feeding them and just being with them. The other activities included kayaking, boat trips, swimming in the lake and a jungle trek. Everything was very well organised, the tents were great and the food delicious.

This place is just paradise in every way. Food to accommodation to being taken to each activity. Our guides Eric and Deen made it that more special. Elephants are my favourite animal and to be up close and personal was a dream come true. Watching them bathe and play in the water was a once in a life time experience. Managed to get the video when the elephant came out the water and she trumpeted with excitement so glad I kept the video running as you don’t always hear that in nature programmes. Tents are big and spacious obviously you’re in the jungle so there are nosies as night mostly cicada’s and occasional birds. If you’re lucky enough you will hear the gibbons early morning waking up.

Only thing I think it needs is a mini fridge in each tent to keep drinks cold even with refillable water bottle this gets warm quite quickly. We could hear some road noise but not too much.
This is a must visit place for anyone coming to Thailand for all you get to do and see its first class. Speed boat ride was fun. Lake camp lunch was lovely and even swam in the lake with the big fish which was a first for me but so glad I did it.

Would definitely come again and do the two night stay due to the heat.

Staff are lovely and friendly and can’t do enough for you always with a smile on their faces.

Being in Thailand makes you realise how fast paced the UK is they live their lives calmly this is something we should learn from these
people no stress just chilled and happy

Thank you Thailand you have been a memorable place to visit and can’t wait to return.

Room tip: Bug spray needed though only got bitten once. Pack light as it’s hot don’t need too much unless you’re moving to another location afterwards

Dear Khun zoem1marshall,

Thank you very much for taking your time to write a wonderful review of the Elephant Hills Tented Camp.

We are delighted to learn that you enjoyed the overall experiences with us at both camps; from the tents, activities, camp settings, facilities, foods to the elephant meetings.

We will surely pass on your kind words to the team whom I’m sure that they will be pleased to know that their service is well recognized by you and that will highly encourage them to continue their hard work and dedication, especially the tour guides, Deen and Eric, whom were mentioned here.

We including the elephants look forward to the opportunity of welcoming you and your friends back to our jungle at Khao Sok again in the not too distant future.

Warmest regards,

We did the 2 night trip with the 2nd night in the lake camp. The main camp was very busy and touristy and we didn’t sleep well in the heat (no aircon) and with the road noise. The elephant experience and river raft trip were good. The lake camp is a much better experience - less people and generally more tranquil.
The plus points - Kong our guide was excellent. The food, although buffet style, was of a good quality and they really made an effort with dietary requirements. There were several activities and they were well organised and efficiently run.
Things to note that weren’t so good - the accommodation is quite basic, esp at the lake. I guess this is part of the charm but its marketed as “luxury” and it is not luxury. It can feel a bit package holiday at times as you are herded about in a big group (16 people in ours which is too many I think). The shared transfer from the lake camp to Phuket, although efficiently organised was very tedious. 45 mins on a boat and then 4 hours in a mini bus with 8 people. I guess its how they keep the costs down but it was a cramped and unpleasant experience.
Overall I would recommend but just be aware of what you are letting yourself in for.

Room tip: Ask for a tent away from the road and footpath.

Wow what to say about this amazing experience !! It was busy from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave but it's a brilliant busy. I booked the nature 3 nights 4 day experience and we did so much.
Day one - went canoeing down the river and saw monkeys and butterflies then went to see the elephants which honestly was the best part you get to feed them prepare their food watch them bath and also get to touch them and learn all about them. I knew it was a few hours but that was there most amazing 2 hours of my life. I can't believe I was that close to 10 beautiful elephants with all different histories and personalities.
Day 2 we were taken by speed boat up the river to a floating pontoon where we had lunch and could swim and go canoeing on your own. The food was lovely then we went back in the speed boat to the mangroves which was so interesting.
Day 3 - took a long boat to the lake camp which took a good hour on the boat when we arrived we had lunch and good swim in the lake and canoe if you wanted to .
Day 4 - we opted out for the jungle walk because it was just too hot but it didn't matter because we got to chill around the pool.
You do need to know that there is a lot of traveling to get to places in Mini buses or trucks and it's very hot.
The accommodation was amazing the tents are well maintained and equipped but they are soooo hot you can't spend too much time in them. We had to ask for a 2nd fan as the first night was unbearable but once that was done it was much better. You must must take good bug spray we went through 2 big tins and it was needed.
The food was good breakfast, lunch and dinner was offered which was always a good selection of different foods .
You do need to take cash you can't pay by card.
The last thing I want to mention is the guides they are brilliant at their jobs they know so much about big shout out to Deen and Eric they make the whole thing worth visiting.
The weather was very very hot and you need good suncream and drink loads of the water which is always available.
The only thing that could be improved is a mini fridge in the tent there is no where to keep your water cold unless you are in the restaurant area.

Room tip: Take a lot of bug spray and suncream. And take sea sickness tablets as you spend a lot of time in boats

From the moment we were picked up by an air-conditioned van, through the stay at the Elephant Camp followed by the Lake Camp and finally the air-conditioned van to our next destination, everything was extremely well organised and every luxury had been thought of (within reason in remote locations). The Elephant experience was our main reason for going and was incredible, being able to meet with, touch, talk to and feed the elephants. However the Lake Camp topped the elephants. A floating camp, in the National Park, surrounded by the noise of wild monkeys in the bush, where we could float in the lake, hike the jungle and kayak the lake. The food across both camps was plentiful and delicious. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The guides had great English skills and the other staff got their message across. Gosh I wish we could have stayed longer.

Room tip: Be prepared to pack a small bag that you can carry that will fit everything you need for an overnight trip to the Lake Camp. You'll need swimmers and hiking gear in this bag

Stunning karst cliffs surround the camp on one side. Overall experience was excellent and unique. The dining hall is beautiful. Evening cooking demonstration was fun.

Pros: favorite excursions were the jungle hike with lunch. The meal was made in a hut and we saw exactly how it was made from beginning to end. The visit to see the small elephants up close, and feeding them was really exciting and fun.

Cons: the trip to and from the lake camp was long and tiring, and the boat trip across the lake, while including fantastical cliffs, was bone-jarring. The location of the lake camp itself is not in a particularly scenic part of the lake. Evening entertainment at the main resort camp could be much improved.

Room note: my tent, #17, was up a walkway back toward the entrance to the property. I had specifically asked for a room not close to the road, so not sure what happened. The accommodation was still fine, but better locations are closer to the valley and the pretty pool, especially a few that have a view of the mountain (these are on the side of the property that is partially closed).

Professionalism: in general, this was wonderful. However, I did hear a guide telling some childhood stories about being disciplined with bamboo canes. This was probably a little too personal.

Tipping: Toward the end of my stay, I realized that some of my fellow guests were offering substantial tips to our wonderful guide to thank her. I felt bad that I didn’t give much of a tip. But the stay was not cheap and my cash was limited. I feel a bit confused about that.
