You won’t find Nemo in the Karoo, but you will definitely find your soul at Rooikloof guest farm! And may I add that will be under the spectacular stars of the Karoo while braaing your certified Karoo lamb! Rooikloof is, in my opinion, the best place to stay when you visit Sutherland. It is situated close to town and the accommodation is of five star quality. Hanntjie thought about everything a guest may need. From the heaters in the rooms to proper wine glasses! The decor and amenities is superb. And we have not ever touch on the tranquility of the farm itself. But the best will be if you go visit yourself. You won’t be disappointed. That’s a promise.

This is surely the best place to stay in Sutherland! Beautifully and thoughtfully decorated and so peaceful. Brilliant to be off-grid and enjoy the candle light. hosts were on hand to fix the boiler immediately...thank you!

We had a wonderful weekend at Rooikloof. Hannatjie was very accommodating and made us feel very welcome. The facilities were top class and still not sure how we found such a lovely house for such an affordable price. The farm is quite nicely located, just outside the main town of Sutherland. SALT is a 15 minute drive from the farm. We were surprised on Sunday morning to snow! Snow started falling at about 5am, and continued through to about 11am. Everything was covered in a blanket of snow. A wonderful experience. I highly recommend this place to everyone. There are also several options available for accommodation should you be a smaller group of people than we were. Thanks again Hannatjie!

Room Tip: Not necessarily a "room tip" but we ran out of toilet paper pretty quickly. Not a problem for smaller groups, but we were 10 people, with only 3 toilet rolls between us.

We stayed in Koesnaatjie 2 and awoke the second day to thick snowfall all around us. The cottage was the perfect cosy hideaway from which to watch the picturesque snowfall and we easily kept warm with gas heaters, hot water bottles and a gigantic open fireplace in the middle of the dining/kitchen area. Candles and gas lamps took us back to a simpler time and the well-kitted kitchen with gas appliances was easy to use. Rooikloof is a few km from the centre of town and a much more romantic and inspiring choice if visiting this small secluded town. Highly recommended!

We arrived at a beautiful and clean house, very well equipped, with fresh roses welcoming us. Cold area, warm people. We were treated to a snowstorm, it couldn't be better. Lots of photo opportunities which we enjoyed and used to the full. No cold sleeping here - warm bedding, electric blankets, heaters... And a fireplace that could not be better.
