We expected this to be a more luxurious and higher end experience but it was just a thinly veiled Budget hotel dressed up to pretend it was more. Nice hotel restaurant and lounge. Rooms were a good size, and grounds were nice, as was the staff, so I will start with the positives.
First off we checked in and were told of unexpected $15/pp per day resort fees and $15/per day parking fee. And $50 pet fee. None of which were disclosed when I booked through Expedia.
Not the end of the world, though a bit irked we shook it off. We checked into our room which smelled of poorly veiled cigarette smoke when it was to have been non smoking. We changed and left the room all day to go and explore beautiful Old City Quebec, which we adored.
Upon return and bedtime we realized our air conditioning was iced up and broken, not blowing, and did Not feel comfortable leaving our window open although it would not have afforded us any fresh cool air because it was a bit muggy and humid out and we were on the ground level near the parking lot and didn’t feel like it was a good idea as the surrounding neighborhood seemed a little sketchy. We slept uncomfortably and not well that night between that and the lingering cigarette smell.
My husband notified the front desk and they sent a maintenance man who determined that the solution was to open the windows and turn off the unit and let the icemelt and once the ice was melted everything would return to normal so needless to say as we got ready for our next outing day it was very hot and humid in the room especially after we each took a warm shower. Very uncomfortable. Maintenance also offered and brought us some for breeze spray for the room. Pretty lame but at least they were trying to help.. They offered to move us but at that point we had so much stuff unpacked and two dogs and it just felt like a broil hassle for only one more night but in retrospect we should have moved given the air conditioning situation. We came back after the day to a cooler room which was welcome, but by the time we closed the curtains for privacy again at bedtime which it turns out and closes the cooler, within a short amount of time the same problem occurred and we spent the night overheated and a stuffy non-air-conditioned room. I think the way the rams are designed when you go to pull the curtains for privacy they cover up their conditioning unit and suffocates it which makes it nice up and then stop working so it’s a flaw in the design is my guess that it keeps on happening again and again.
We let the front desk know about the air going off again and they did offer to remove our resort fees and have complementary breakfast, we declined the breakfast because we had to hit the road but at least I tried. All in all I don’t think I would stay in this hotel again although The Pool seems nice and the grounds were adequate. Next time we’d stay right in Old Town. The promise of luxury and expansive property both were overblown and exaggerated.:(
