The hotel stated that they did not have an elevator but forgot to mention that you needed one to get into the hotel as it was a minimum of 15-20 stairs to get to the front door from the street and stairs again to get in from the secondary entrance on the side. If you wanted the breakfast, then you had two flights of stairs from the main floor to the basement where the restaurant is.

The room that they use to Advertise the hotel is probably not the room that you will get unless you are paying the premium rate for an “Executive” room. Our room, #28, was at the rear of the main floor and would probably be considered a “small” room by European standards. The bathroom was a converted closet, with a sink, toilet and shower that is smaller than that found on any cruise ship; in clarity it was “Small”. If your neighbour coughed , you would hear it like they were in the room with you.

Let’s talk about the bed as it was one that was similar to one that I would have had as a kid 60 years ago, except this one was still in use. It should have been tossed into the garbage many years ago and replaced with a more suitable commercial one. Sleep was something that evaded us during the two nights that we stayed there. Upon leaving we saw some of the other rooms that appeared to be more normal but we we’re not told that we could have had one for an upcharge. I don’t know what they were like in the other building across the street but then we didn’t know that the hotel was operating out of two buildings.

On the good side , the breakfast was great! Good variety of food and good service.

On the health standards of the room and restaurant areas, I would have to give the hotel a failing grade. I saw black mold in the room bathroom, lack of basic repairs to tiles and area around the sink. I don’t know how the staff could even clean the room with the limited space and the dirt on the AC unit was a clear indicator that the room was only receiving a superficial cleaning. In the restaurant, I don’t like using dishes that are chipped and in need of replacement; in my province the restaurant would have been sited under the health act for their use!

Overall recommendation: Stay somewhere that has better access, follows a higher standard of service providers and can stand behind their advertising. If you are senior travellers, do not plan on staying here. This hotel gives the industry a bad name by what it is stating that it provides

The room was cozy, very clean and had that Old Montreal feel to it. The breakfast was wonderful in the mornings and the staff were very friendly. Great location to the metro, downtown and parking garages. Thanks for a great time!

The one thing not mentioned in the summary we read, was the sheer flight of steps you have to climb with your luggage to enter the hotel. It is a charming building, close to everything, NO elevator. the budget room was the smallest room I have ever been in, but we were only there two nights. For Location it was great.

A pricey Hotel. We could book a much better Hotel with that price!!!! The room was tiny, and the bathroom was very small, one can hardly move. Sorry to say that we expected a good, and better place. We paid so much, and we got so little. Sorry. Limited Parking space.

Stayed in a budget room. It was too small for two people. bed was up against wall. No room for clothes/luggage.Generally rather grubby. Shower room too small even for one person and needed a deep clean/total refurbishment. The air conditioning was ineffective so window had to be left open making the room very noisy with traffic from busy road - sirens heard frequently. Breakfast in restaurant next door. would have been an average offering if items had been replaced as they ran out but they weren't.
Staff polite but not particularly welcoming.

Room Tip: Lots of stairs so only unsuitable for anyone with mobility problems
