First, my 4-star rating relates to an evaluation of this hotel in relation to other "budget" hotels. The Manoir has been my go-to hotel in Montreal for years when I didn't want to spend a fortune on accomodations. In fact, the hotel today is cleaner and more comfortable than ever. At $58CDN or about $40US a night, you can't beat the price or the location right in the heart of Montreal's Latin Quarter. We were able to check in early and the gentleman at the reception was very helpful and friendly regarding parking ( there are several underground parking lots in the neighborhood). Our room, containing two comfortable double beds faced the side street which made it even a bit more quiet. The room and bath were both immaculately clean. The wood decor used in the rooms is both warm and attractive. Although there are no real ammenities offered in the lobby, one is right across the street from a Starbucks for morning coffee. Saint Denis street is full of shops and eateries. Further north, just above Sherbrook, many more eateries can be found on Prince Arthur Street or up around Duluth Street. Many BYOB restaurants can be found in this part of town. For anyone using American dollors, the 30% exchange rate makes Montreal a relatively inexpensive get-a-way destination for the weekend.

I spent 3 nights here with 3 girlfriends in a double room. It was ~AU$20 per person per night. We're on a budget.

Being the cheapest accommodation compared to other places on our trip, our experience was as follows:
- we were on the second floor dragging our luggage up 2.5 flight of stairs
- the shower took a long time to warm up and it was tricky to adjust the temperature as it was not immediate
- one man at the reception (evening) just did not know how to smile, the one during the day seemed friendlier
- the place felt dodgy as we didn't see a soul
- it still uses the old fashion key to lock/access your room and you only get 1
- thermostat didn't seem accurate so the room was too warm causing dehydration for all
- bedbugs (still itchy)
- cleaners are not there every day to service rooms (by the look of the hotel, we didn't expect any room cleaning)

Positives include:
- cheaper rates
- free WiFi although Starbucks is across the road
- good location, plenty of shops, train/bus stations
- if you're on a tight budget then you'd settle for free but terrible bland microwaved croissants (there might have been jam) with juice/coffee that you pick up from reception and take to your room

Just don't bring a date but suitable for a paid date.

I was searching for a nice hotel, in a good area. This was a excellent choice. I've stayed here for 3 nights, and let me clear, if you want superb hotel, don't choose this one. Goods: Very central, nice neighborhood, very close to subway and central bus station (to and from airport), simple breakfast (croissant, cafe, orange juice), free wifi, nice reception people. Cons: Very small room (no problem for me but can be not as good for all).

We had booked for one night. On arrival the location was basically awful with homeless people walking up and down the middle of the road begging for money. Bad start.
Parked outside quickly to go check in. Inside was dirty with cigarettes on the floor. A grubby man appeared who at first looked like one of the homeless people who had just been begging outside. Realised this was the guy who works here. Wouldn't let us use the toilet until we had paid despite us having travelling hours across Canada to get to Montreal.
So bad that we ended up paying and leaving- couldn't stand the depressing thought of having to stay in this dirty, shabby place were we felt vulnerable unsafe and uncomfortable.

We've been travelling round Canada for 3 weeks and this place is the ONLY place where we've felt like this. Take our advice and avoid it, it was worth paying the cancellation cost to not have to suffer a disgusting night here.

I stayed here for a week and had a wonderful time. The staff here are just so friendly and helpful and made my time here very enjoyable. The hotel is clean and comfortable and is in a great central location, close to many restaurants and sites. The croissant and coffee each morning was delicious! Highly recommended!
