Quick visit to Montreal. This hotel is just outside the hustle of the city center but within walking distance of Vieux Montreal. This is a "teaching hotel;" it is run by a school of hospitality management. It is staffed by students. The lobby is large but stark. Check in was pleasant and efficient. Our room was clean and nicely furnished. Bathroom was modern and well stocked. Hallways are spacious. Parking is available for a modest price below the hotel. The location was perfect for walking and exploring. Price was right for a city hotel. Breakfast was served on linen table cloths in the hotel's restaurant. Service was cold and unattentive. Offerings included breakfast breads, cereals, meats, yogurt, cheese, juice, coffee, and hard boiled eggs (nothing hot).

Rarely a room to be had and that is a good sign, a hotel generally ran by the students of the Institut. Great balconies, rooms are great, solid wifi, great location...no fluff and wow, but a great business room close to the action and fantastic price.

Pros:
Big clean room; new furniture, comfy soft bed. huge fluffy pillows, huge flat screen TV, good AC, Balcony, Iron, shower massager, expresso, fridge, strong wifi, great customer service

Cons:
expensive for a school hotel; no microwave; they need to steam clean carpet to remove musty smell; should make optional breakfast instead of charging everyone for breakfast in room price; need more variety at breakfast; no exhaust fan in bath; no individual soaps

Location: near restaurants, bars, park, metro station, the Village

CONS: Room smelled musky; bought fabreeze to eliminate odor. Sofa had 3 stains that looked like someone tried to remove. Free breakfast means $20 has been added to the price of your room.
Front desk is slow, but all Canadians are slow by nature.
Breakfast is limited, European selection, and they charge for more than one glass of OJ. Crazy. Silly. Only one server during breakfast, so you will have to wait for a refill on coffee or any request.
Only 42 rooms on 2 floors... floor 7 and 8. Only 1 elevator.
Soaps are in huge containers; not individual;
No exhaust fan in bathroom No microwave.
A little pricey for a school/training hotel

PROS: Big clean room; new furniture, comfy soft bed. huge fluffy pillows, huge flat screen TV AC works well Balcony to sit on with table and 2 chairs. Iron, blow dryer, robe, etc. Wifi is free and strong signal in room 718 Quiet; seemed safe considering next to metro station Metro is in same building as hotel; convenient Very polite staff. Within walking distance of restaurants and bars. Next to a park. Near the Village 200 cable channels Fridge & expresso coffee maker Plenty of dimmable lights Shower massager

Room Tip: ice machine is on 7th floor; ask for a room with a balcony;

After reading other reviews, I am a bit perplexed. Yes, this is a decent hotel. However, this is five stars about like every mid-range motel/hotel should be as well. Here's why...

1. The hotel occupies 2 floors (6-7)of a non-descript building that is approximately ten floors tall. Each room is very bright and has a balcony. Even with the white curtains closed, the room gets bright quickly when the sun is up.
2. For $200 a night plus tax (higher season), my room, while fairly large and clean, had a small bathroom without a tub. I didn't leave having the sense that I had received the deal of the century like some other reviewers.
3. The location is convenient for the Metro and for St, George Square.
4. The lobby is located in the middle of the building. You would not recognize it as such without a bit of help.
5. Breakfast is complimentary. It is the standard coffee, juice, bread, cereal, yogurt, cheese, ham, fruit served everywhere. The breakfast room has more charm than any other area of the hotel, with nice windows looking out to the park.

Nice atmosphere! The staff are friendly and helpful. The wine was good but the food was flavorless . I tasted both the fish . The sea bream was slimy , tanks and unappealing. The artic char was flavorless and had been frozen I think. The presentation was flawless. . Seasoning the fish before cooking is a very good idea. It was an interesting experience. We would have liked some information on the institute.
