I don't know what people are complaining about. It's not The Keg. What do people expect? It's a hole in the wall. But it is authentic. Go in with an open mind. Maybe the previous posters are not that experienced in going to Chinese restaurants in Scarborough. As far as Chinese restaurants go, there are far, far worse, like in the Dundas/Spadina Chinatown downtown. This gem is in the heart of Scarborough Chinatown at Midland and Finch. The food is great. Fresh, tasty, and affordable. Service is fast. We've gone many times and never had a problem. We've spoken to them in Cantonese and also in English. They've always been pleasant. It's obvious it's a family-run business. From some of the reviews, we have a bunch of primadonnas reviewing the place. You want white tablecloth service? Go somewhere else. This is the real Chinatown!

Went here with family on a Saturday - no high chairs for my kids.

Food - very expensive for quantity and quality.

Staff prepare dumplings in the back where customers can see however you clearly see they are not wearing gloves. Touch face - touch dumpling. Touch hair - touch dumpling. Scratch nose - touch dumpling.

Whoever is the manager handled money - then proceeded to sit at table to prepare more dumplings WITHOUT washing hands. I took a video and will be reporting.

As for the food - bland. Quantity - small. Price - expensive for a Chinese restaurant.

Hair in soup. Hair inside dumpling- looked like a pube.

Ordered "sweet and sour pork", verified with server who just nodded and told us to write the item number down. When we receive d order which was clearly Not sweet and sour pork, the manager proceeds to say "IT'S YOUR FAULT. YOU WRITE IT DOWN. IT'S YOUR ERROR NOT MY ERROR"

If you don't care for customer service and want to be ripped off, come here and enjoy the complimentary hair in your soup.

Decided to come here for some lunch, had good reviews so i figured it would be a a good opportunity. Anyhow, got there and got a table right away. Rest of the service was very poor. Took a very long time to place our orders - it almost felt like we were the odd family out. They would go to other tables who were Chinese, but for us (not Chinese) they would either walk right past us or not even check up. It could be just me, but that's definitely what it felt like.

Anyhow, we ordered some soup bowl with vermicelli, dumplings, fried rice, some noodles, and some pork pancakes.

Vermicelli soup bowl: Presentation was really nice, but overall the soup was bland and not good at all. definitely avoid.

Fried rice: was MEH. For this price (I believe around $8), you can get it wayyyyy better at other places.

Pork pancakes: Actually not too bad - the only thing that was appetizing. We ordered only 1, but they brought us 2 and charged us for that. That's fine, but they need to pay attention to what the customer actually orders.

Dumplings: for a place that calls itself the 'Dumpling King'. Their dumplings taste like frozen ones from the grocery store at best. It was edible, but that's about it.

Fried noodles: I left this one last for a reason. A: it was below average and B: we found a long hair in our noodles. Probably only one person dug into the plate before we found it, but when we brought it up to the attention of the server she looked dumbfounded and went to her supervisor or manager. This person was more younger looking and can speak english much better than the others. But when we told her, she denied it and refused to take it back. Are you kidding me? She said, it could have been our hair that fell into it and that she isn't going to do anything about it. Probably one of the worst responses i have ever heard. Definitely won't be back there.

In summary: Poor food, poor customer service. don't go

My wife and I (we are Chinese) tried dinner at "The Dumpling King" located in a Scarborough Chinese shopping plaza. The place is relatively clean, tidy and well-lit as such restaurants go, with a utilitarian decor. There was a lady working on wrapping dumpling at back of dining area. Service was minimal with no pleasantries.
The menu has fairly small print with an extensive selection of dumplings, dim sum, noodles, rice, beef, pork and seafood dishes. We ordered xiao long bao (6 pieces of which 5 pieces did not have soup inside), potstickers (5 pieces which were not sufficiently fried to bring out flavour), braised beef noodle soup (which was generous with noodles, but not much meat and vegetables) and chicken fried rice (which was a large plate, but average taste). The fried rice was served quite quickly, but then there was a bit of wait for the xiao long bao, noodle soup and potsickers, in that order.
The price is typical for the quantity of food and we took home 1/2 the fried rice. However, there was nothing special for us to return anytime soon.

Aside from the various dumplings, the other dishes are good as well. We tried both deep fried fish and Vegetable soup. Price is reasonable and Service is OK
