This is one of the top three restaurants that I recommend for visitors to NOTL. Great food large portions and all at "local" prices. The decor couldn't be more authentic since the building is upwards of 200 years old, so there is always something interesting to look at.
To top it all off, the staff is warm and welcoming. Win win in my book!

I am SO disappointed. This was our special place. We've come here since I was a baby, a family tradition. We came back this year for the Christmas stroll and brought our kids and the candles from the vigil back, such a sentimental place for us all. The children played with the candles and some "wax crumbs" must have fallen on the table. When we got home, we were met with a cold email, accusing us of lighting candles in the room and pouring wax all over and notifying us of an exorbitant charge to my sister's credit card. We never lit candles. No one will listen to our side of the story. I understand a small $20-30 fee for what might have been some playdough on the table, but not the amount they asked for. They will not provide proof of damage. They simply will not believe us that we never lit candles. The charge was 100% UNAUTHORIZED. I am so sad to see a long tradition ended so harshly. ANGEL INN: Send us photos of this "damage" or reimburse us.

Hi Clara S
Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review on Facebook, and now Trip Advisor about your recent stay. I am sorry to see that you left us a 1 star, but I am glad that you were able to share your side of the story, unfortunately it is in an other public forum.

When we originally took the reservation in September it was for 5 guests staying in the Governor’s Room which is the maximum number of guests we allow. When your group showed up on Friday, there were 8 guests. Our standard operating procedure for this would not allow for 8 guests to stay, however, knowing it was the Candle Light Stroll, and there were no rooms available at any other hotels in Niagara, we offered you a complimentary roll away bed (a savings of $56.50).

The Olde Angel Inn is a sentimental place for many families, and we are glad that you will have fond memories when your family stayed here in 2006, and 2007. As it has been 10 years since your family last stayed here, and we have since had to implement Standard Operating Procedures in order to protect our guests, employees, and the historical significance of the Olde Angel Inn.

One of those procedures is the Room Disclaimer which your group did sign. In the Room Disclaimer it clearly states “Guests are not permitted to smoke, have open flames or burn candles in our Guest Rooms, restaurant, or pub.” Further down in the disclaimer “Guests at The Olde Angel Inn are responsible for any and all damaged incurred to the room. Your credit card will be charged for any damages. This charge is subject to the owners discretion”, and finally “by signing this disclaimer, you are aware of all our policies and agree to pay all charges incurred due to damages, smoking and missing items.” To say that the charge was 100% unauthorized is in fact a lie, it was authorized as soon as the disclaimer was signed.

The email that was sent informing you of the damages, and that we had processed your card was simply stating that. It was not send in a cold manor, however, we can imagine that it would be perceived that way, as we were charging the group for the damages caused by spilt wax in the room. If it was wax balls that had been made (which is one claim stated on the phone), or play dough as mentioned in your review we would not have charged the group. The decision to charge a group is not done lightly, especially done this close to the Holiday Season.

Upon speaking with the guest who made the reservation we did reverse a large amount of the charge (which was done prior to your review being written). We charged you a minimal fee of $100.00 for cleaning spilt wax off the glass protector on an antique wood table, spilt wax off the antique wooden table, as well as spilt was off the original wooden floors (circa 1815).

Maybe over time we can enjoy your company again!

All the Best for 2018!

Dinner was simple and very enjoyable. Very nice fare for the $. It's been around for a few score and then some so they must realize over time "if it ain't broke don't fix". We will be back... and enjoyed it enough to think of staying at one of the rooms upstairs for a getaway weekend.

This is one of our go to places when in Niagara. This time was no exception. Food was good, beer was cold and service was great. Steak and kidney pie is amazing and very close to my grandmothers!! You can't go wrong here for drinks and or food.

Have never stayed here but he restaurant is well worth a try.

Hi there,

Thanks so much for the review and stopping in at the restaurant anytime you're in town. Next time you may like to try a stay and risk a night in one of our rooms where Swayze's ghost may pay a visit! :)

Cheers,
Kyla
