Arrived at Canalta Lodge before check in time as we were passing by the hotel and decided to see if our room was ready (it wasn't, but we expected this as it was before 3pm!). We were met by Marielle and Zoe who were quick to point us to some wildlife hotspots nearby to kill some time whilst we waited for our room to be finished. The two girls were friendly, professional and knowledgeable about the local area, and gave a wonderful first impression. We drove away looking forward to our stay.
Unfortunately, this initial excellent impression was somewhat ruined when, upon trying to sleep later that evening, we were disturbed by someone emptying the ice machine opposite the room to our door. The machine spent the next two hours noisily making ice, meaning sleep was hard to come by. The location of our room in such proximity to the ice machine, as well as the door to the stairwell and the elevator, meant that our night's sleep was pretty poor. Had it not been so late, and our day not been so long and tiring, we would have requested a room move, but felt we would be better served by attempting to get what sleep we could. A mumbled apology from the gentleman that checked us out left us with the impression that this was not the first time this complaint had been heard (a quick search of the below TA reviews will confirm this), and we felt disappointed that such a promising start to our stay was let down by something as simple as placing an ice machine right outside a hotel room.
The property is nicely done up, the rooms are comfortable and very clean, and the recently opened hot tub/sauna area looked amazing. Unfortunately, for us, the hotel was to be used to get a good nights sleep between long driving days on our road trip, which we did not have. Would stay again, but advise travelers to request room away from ice machine.

Room tip: Avoid 330 and other rooms near ice machine and stairwell

A very good lodge, right in the heart of Banff. We stayed in a two queen beds room with a well equipped kitchen; the room was very spacious and comfortable, though the bathroom could be larger. There was construction work during our stay, since they are building what seems to be a nice spa area, but it didn’t inconvenience us. Check in at 4pm is a bit of a pain, and the breakfast was good but nothing special. A pleasant stay and I fell safe to recommend it.

A charming hotel in Banff, the hotel has highly professional staff who are friendly and welcoming. The rooms are large and very cosy making your stay feel very relaxed. Located on the main drag leading into downtown Banff but far enough away for a quiet stay. The breakfast service is excellent with lots of options to choose from. Finally for the fee the value for what you get as a package is exceptional. A must visit hotel and for me the best that Banff has to offer.

We had four nights here in September. Nice and clean, handy to everywhere, good breakfast. Only thing missing was a bar for a quick drink at the end of a long day! Good parking. Nice artwork everywhere. Enjoyed our stay.

Room tip: No safe in rooms but front desk staff were happy to store valuables. Door to room wasn't that soundproof but wasn't a huge problem.

Highly recommend! We loved the lodge theme! Very easy to get in and out to the main drag in Banff. Hot tub, above average continental breakfast, underground parking for a small fee and friendly staff!
