We were on a tour so don't know how much the tour operator paid. However, this hotel was in a perfect location, near the start of the restaurant, pubs, shops area and close to a supermarket. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The bar area, whilst small, had a good selection of local brews and lunchtime/dinner food very tasty. Breakfast was good, but a queue for the eggs (this seems to be usual for hotels - only one chef). Our room was excellent; small sitting room with large screen tv leading to a very clean bathroom and good sized bedroom with another large screen tv. The bed looked lumpy but was surprisingly very comfortable. There was a balcony which overlooked another hotel. The only downside was that the lighting was of eco bulb type with thick brown glass around them making the room slightly darker than you'd expect.

I'm very torn about how to review this, it cost a bloody fortune, but that's Banff on a weekend I guess. So, when you pay top $$ then you expect a lot, and it mostly delivered. We had a king room with an internal facing balcony. The bed was huge and comfortable. The room had a coffee machine, kettle and a fridge which was useful. The wifi was good. The room could feel quite dim, if you didn't find all the light switches (they seemed to be hidden all over the place, one over the kettle nook, one over the table etc etc).

The included breakfast was good, a hot and cold buffet and an fresh omelette station. The problem with breakfast is that the restaurant cannot cope if a large group arrives at the same time, and one morning it also felt that one coach had synchronized their watches to arrive at precisely the same time.

Location was great - it was a very short walk into downtown Banff, and it had underground self parking.

The staff were good, when we arrived the receptionist gave us a lot of information about cool hikes we could try (we didn't manage to get to them, but appreciated the suggestions) and was very friendly.

We stayed here as part of our Rocky Mountaineer trip.
The hotel is in the middle of town, and the facilities are world class.
The room we occupied had a balcony, but unfortunately it was too chilly to sit out for long.
We used the restaurant which had a wide choice of food available.
Our room had a log fire & also had free internet.
Would certainly stay there again in the future.

We stayed at the Ptarmigan Hotel as first 3 nights of a tour. We were very happy with the room and hotel. We had a nice balcony where we could sit and watch the goings on in the street below and a nice sized bathroom. It wasn't the biggest room we have had and as one other reviewer said it was dark. But it was fine. The breakfast which was included was very nice. There were cereals, fruit {which was really lovely} a choice of about 4/5 hot dishes or omelette if you wanted and cakes, toast. Tea coffee or fruit juice. Set us up for the day.

Room tip: We liked the balcony at the front but there was a bit of noise from the cafe, but not late at night.

I was here in May 2018 with family. The room I was staying in had no air conditioning and was really warm during the day. I think it was somewhere between 27C to 33C during the day and not much cooler during the night. I would advise management/executives to install air conditioning in all rooms. Other than that, it was a nice place.
