We recently visited BML for a mid-week stay. At first I wasn't sure if I would prefer to be closer to town for convenience. Upon arrival we were greeted warmly by the front desk staff, our room wasn't ready so they stored our bags and informed us that it was a short 15 min walk downhill to town. Shuttle service started at 3pm.

While it was a busy holiday weekend in Canada (Victoria day) we realized we were thrilled to be just outside of town. The view was perfect from our room looking out at the mountains from our deck. and didnt have to listen to any street traffic noise.

Everyday we used the shuttle to/from town and the drivers picked you up in an SUV, it wasn't a bit bus moving tons a of people around. We were there mid week but should you visit on the weekend you will probably want to schedule your ride. There isn't UBER or Lyft in town.

Every morning we grabbed some coffee/pastry at the cafe before making our way to the days activities. everything was homemade not frozen. We really enjoyed. While we didn't dine at the other restaurant we saw some of the food and it looked great.

The rooms were very clean and included a fire place. It is a lodge feel so dont expect a modern looking room. We were visited during a warm week (85F) so didn't take advantage of starting a fire

We stayed at Buffalo mountain lodge for 3 night in May. We arrived very late around 1130pm after a drive from Calgary airport. The drive from the airport is straight forward and quite easy even with jet lag as we travelled from the UK. We arrived with a very pleasant lady on reception who was helpful and cheerful which summed up the Canadian folk in this town, very welcoming. We drove over to our accommodation which was up a block with wooden boardwalks and opened the door to a lovely old fireplace, big comfortable bed and a lovely wooden balcony, we loved it but went straight to sleep!! In the morning when I looked outside we could see the Rockies, wow, amazing. We then walked to the on site café which was very well stocked and not badly priced and once again friendly staff. We decided to walk into Banff, it took us around 25 minutes although there is a bus service!! On one occasion when we hit Banff for a few beers we got a taxi back around 1am and it was $9 so not too bad. We loved the beautiful surroundings, we walked up the hill from the lodge and saw amazing scenery with snow capped mountains and beautiful woodland, just take bells because there were Black bear about but they didn't seem to be too bothered. All in all this place is not 'luxury' but it gives you the feel of real Canada and very rustic which appealed to us, we will definitely come back one day!! As a tip for a day out, if you have a car go to the Gondolas then after give the hot springs a go which sits near the Gondolas and heats nicely at 40 degrees!! Also, we went in May (6th) I would recommend these dates as the temp was around 15-21 degrees, just right but it can change because of the mountains.

Room Tip: Top floors looking onto the woodland

We had a ground floor room and every time the guests upstairs walked within their room the noise reverberated around our room. Hard to get to sleep because of it.
They inforced the 4pm check in when we knew of many rooms that had been finished preparation prior to that too.

Room Tip: Request upstairs room

Buffalo Mountain Lodge offers beautiful, traditional accommodation that makes you feel as though you are sleeping in your very own log cabin. We arrived on a sunny day, with guests and locals enjoying refreshing drinks both on the restaurant terrace and the Buffalo Mountain Cafe. Check in was simple and lucky for us, our allocated room looked straight onto the mountains!

Our room was very much in keeping with the surrounding environment, it offered modern amenities alongside a traditional, mountain design. The room was extremely spacious with a large king bed, cosy fire, roll top bath and a stunning balcony that made the most of the views.

We found the resort very quiet at night, we never heard our neighbours and we were both able to enjoy a good night sleep with no interruptions. The natural setting relaxes you as soon as you enter the property.

I expected so much more for the price of the accommodations and expected everything to be in tip top shape and it wasn't it really showed its age You must keep the property in tip top shape when people come so far and spend so much to get there. There should be some pride in the property because of the beautiful location..
