This was our third visit here and yet again the food was superb.
There were 6 in our party, all having different dishes and each one was immaculately cooked.
The pub is in an amazing location (great for a riverside walk before or after and the the pub is cosy and warm with a great garden for warmer days.

As the previous reviewer noted, since this lovely old pub's sad demise as a Free House, it has until recently been widely regarded locally as a place to avoid with unmemorable food and indifferent service. But I agree that the young people who are now managing the pub are actually acting like proper landlords and most of the former ambience is returning.

It's position is stunning and I'm very glad to see that it's largely looking much as it did before the disastrous attempt at gentrification that wiped out so much of what everybody loved about it. There's many of us, I'm sure, who remember it from the 60s when it was lit with oil lamps and you had to be careful not to drive into the river as you left.

Having enjoyed fish & chips there before, we ordered happily anticipating the delicious and generous portion of fish cooked to perfection in featherlight batter that we've had on previous visits. So it was really disappointing today to be presented with a large, round roll of rather leaden batter with virtually no fish inside (the fish of the day being pollock). This is such a shame and coupled with the fact that the chips tasted like they'd been thrice cooked, was a huge disappointment.

As we left one of the staff asked if we'd enjoyed the meal and sadly, the answer to that this time had to be 'not really'. In fairness they did say it was a shame we didn't mention it earlier, but that would have meant a longish wait as the pub is very popular and was filling up, so we just decided to cut our losses and make a note not to order fish & chips again.

But we will be back, and hopefully at some time the kitchen will ditch the rather tired 'twice cooked' chips in favour of 'once cooked' but fresh. And the regular portion of fish which we ordered will actually be of an appropriate size. I just hope anyone who ordered the small size today wouldn't mistake it for a single whitebait.

For once I was lost for words. Beautiful location...gorgeous inside and out. Scrumptious food. Very good vegetarian choices. Staff friendly and knowledgeable. Had a lovely stroll along the river after lunch.

Stopped in for a pint after a picturesque 2 mile dog walk along the river. We saw some lovely food being served so jumped on the band wagon with a smoked fish sharing platter. It was delicious only enhanced further by the peaceful garden with the stream running round the edge.

Out of the way from hustle n bustle, lovely riverside spot! My fondant potato was a little disappointing but other than that it was very nice and not too expensive.
