Having had a very memorable meal in El Alquimista in 2010, we decided to stay there during our recent visit to Zipolite. The service was okay - no efforts were made to show us the grounds, the guy just pointed from behind his desk. The tiny cabaña had an extra small double bed with a net that did nothing to prevent the mosquitoes from eating us alive while we slept, a small table with chair, two small, triangular shaped shelving units (an odd shape to put things in), tiny bathroom with no door, nor division between the shower and toilet. The space had little room for luggage (we had two carry ons and two backpacks) but it had a lovely balcony with two lounge chairs and a hammock. The hotel is located on the west end of the beach, perfect for those looking for a quiet retreat. It has a small swimming pool, spa, daily yoga (at an additional cost), and small restaurant. We ate there once - the experience was nothing spectacular this time. The best part of our stay were the toiletries provided - all local, organic, delicious smelling products and the hammock. We least enjoyed the tiny bed and the temperature changes in the cabaña - hot at night and cold in the morning.

Room Tip: Splurge on the rooms with larger bed and air conditioning. Bring flashlight.

Great place to unwind . Nice rooms with great views. The massage and yoga classes are awesome. Very secure day and night. They will arrange transportation to and from the airport and anywhere else. Highly recommend especially if it is your first time to Zipolite. Plenty of close by restaurants. Don't hesitate to roam the streets of town day or night for a real eye opening experience. A flashlight at night will make you feel more secure.Have fun!

Room Tip: We had a king room#18. Lots of room to stretch out and relax

Really really good place go stay with your couple, room amazing, a doc with the nudist concept of the zone, private if you like so, depends on you, food above the average, good service, just the pool was under maintenance and nobody advice that, beach almost private, and you can buy really good stuff with local people that pass by

El Alquimista's location at the end of the beach is very quiet and relaxing. It is especially enjoyable during the day and it is an enjoyable and scenic walk to the center of town. At night we found it to be a big drawback as we did not want to walk the stretch of beach in total darkness so we had to resort to taking a taxi. We only ate at the on site restaurant once. It was good, but more expensive than some of the places in town.
The accommodations are very basic with no place to put your clothes and no chairs to sit on inside. The chairs outside are are not very comfortable. We made the mistake of sitting outside the first night and got a lot of insect bites. They do have hot water - VERY HOT! - so you need to be careful. For the price we paid we were disappointed with the room we had.
Overall we were happy with our stay and enjoyed the experience, but if we return to Zipolite we would pick a different hotel closer to the center of town.
