Beautiful queen beach with not a bit of seaweed in sight. The vendors walking up and down the beach were a bit obnoxious but generally after a firm no, I left you alone - Not Rocky at all, and beautiful Caribbean blue water. Stop at Fenix if you are looking for excellent ceviche!

We loved Playa Norte so much we had to make a second trip to Isla Mujeres to lay on this excellent beach all day. There are plenty of restaurants that rent out chairs and umbrellas to lay under. Be aware that some will charge you to use them (we got charged ~$20), but others will let you use them for free in exchange for you ordering food and drinks from them. The water is calmer here than you will find on the hotel zone. The island shelters it perfectly. The view from the water onto the beach is to die for as well. Vendors will come by with necklaces, blankets, or offers to braid your hair. One thing you should not turn down is the opportunity to get a massage in an open air palapa. Ours was $35 per person for a 60 minute massage with a face mask and foot exfoliation. To be able to feel the breeze on your skin and the gentle crash of the waves during your massage was as close to heaven as it gets. The water is also the most perfect shade of aqua blue. Playa Norte is a must-see!!

Playa Norte has seen many changes over the decades I’ve been going there. In the early days it was mostly quiet and serene. Now a days it’s that way for about 3 hours of the morning only, 7:00-10:00 am. After that, it gets very busy, sometimes too busy to find chairs and an umbrella, which need to be rented for the day, usually around $15.00 Cdn. But there’s lots of coconut trees for shade and soft white sand to lay your towel down. Sometimes the music from either the bars or the catamarans and yachts that pull up with tons of people can be annoying, ie playing the same loud music over and over or music with the same beat for hours. But we literally spent most of our vacation on this beach. Reading, swimming and eating food from smaller, and inexpensive places on the strip. It’s perfect for little children since the beach has a gradual dept and the sand is so soft and white. I only wish I could have a beach like this in my area.

We go to Isla Mujeres at least twice every trip to Cancun and we do the golf cart thing for one of the days. After going around the island a couple times we always take a stop at Playa Norte early afternoon for a refreshing dip. The beach is very nice. The waters are calm as it is leeward of the prevailing winds. Cabanas/umbrellas with loungers are available to rent but we find it too pricy.

Love playa norte, one of the best beaches in the world. Boats are parking too close and there seems to be too much petroleum in the water now. Move the ropes!
