We scheduled three weeks in advance, they weren't able to meet the minimum number of people, they were going to cancel but Al decided to take us out anyway. Al and Mike were AMAZING! Very knowledgeable--great conversation. Taught us all about the different islands and their residents. Mike made very strong drinks! They spent some serious quality time with us even though they were losing money on our trip since we didn't have the minimum number of people. We ended up being out with them from 7 am until 4:30 pm! They didn't skimp at all! We actually couldn't do lunch at Cooper Island because it had a land/mud slide the day before so Al and Mike took us to lunch at a gorgeous place at the top of the Baths.

Overall--amazing trip to BVI. I would choose this over Breakaway anyway. Breakaway has been around a lot longer, but we passed one going to the Baths and it had about 30+ people on it stuffed in like sardines all sitting down. Would not recommend that when you can have a more private charter (as Stormy Petrol/Pirate's Penny is a max of 12). Definitely more personal than Breakaway.

Great trip from St. John's to the Baths on Virgin Gorda on the Stormy Petral boat trip. The Baths were neat rock formations to explore. Then off to Jost Van Dyke for lunch at white beach.

We've taken several BVI charter trips over the years, but this year we decided to change it up and book with Stormy Petrel.

The booking process was simple, yet thorough. I was super impressed with the level of communication! I booked the reservation with Carol, who thoroughly went through all of the details of the trip. She also followed up with a detailed email. The day before the trip I received a text and a voicemail from Captain Al reminding us of arrival time and things we needed to bring.

What we liked best about this trip was the small group. They didn't attempt to cram the boat to the max. While other boat trips can have upwards of 30 people, we only had 12 people. Captain Al and Spencer were very welcoming and accommodating throughout the day. We appreciated that they pointed out the different islands as we passed and some fun facts.

After stopping at customs in the BVI, we cruised on over to the Virgin Gorda. We put down anchor and swam to shore. They had flotation devices, flippers and mats available for guests and were very accommodating to make sure we all made it to shore safely! We've been to the Virgin Gorda before, but Captain Al and Spencer showed us areas we haven't seen! They were excellent tour guides and made sure our group stayed together. Heads up: it did require some climbing, but nothing too strenuous. We all did it barefoot.

After the stop at the Virgin Gorda, we headed straight for Jost van Dyke at the recommendation of Captain Al. He said sometimes they stop for lunch on Cooper Island, but it would be better to maximize our time at Jost. We enthusiastically agreed! We were able to anchor pretty close to shore because it wasn't very busy. Captain Al and Spencer made a recommendation for lunch at Hendo's Hideout on Jost and it was excellent! We spent over two hours on Jost and had ample time to eat lunch and have a couple drinks at the Soggy Dollar Bar. The amount of time spent on Jost really made the trip worth it for us!

The beers, rum punch, and water was plentiful. I never felt like we were without a drink in hand! There was no food provided, so I'd definitely recommend eating breakfast in the morning (we didn't!). Also, you must bring a passport and it's $60 per person to get through customs in BVI. Does that suck? Yes, it does (Captain Al also mentioned it's going up to $70 soon). However, that's typical for all boat trips going into BVI and we were well aware of the fee from booking. Reviewers: there are better things to complain about than a customs fee that the companies have no control over.

Overall, we would definitely do this boat trip again and recommend it to others. It's very laid back and we didn't feel rushed at any part of the trip. Thanks for a wonderful day Captain Al and Spencer!

We just returned from another trip to the Virgin Islands. Chartered Pirate's Penny two days during our trip. Capt. Megan and Spencer took us to some great snorkel spots and then lunch and lounging on Jost Van Dyke. Had a wonderful day with great friends made better by Megan and Spencer. Had such a great experience we went back a second day. Capt. Galen and Spencer treated us to another fantastic trip. New snorkel spots, great history lessons and story-telling. Highly recommend this trip for anyone visiting St. Thomas/St. John.

This is our second trip with Stormy Petrel and Pirate's Penny and we can't say enough about how wonderful this company is! Galen and Michael took us this time, stopping at Virgin Gorda, Cooper Island and Norman Island. We had incredible snorkeling at The Indians (probably the best snorkeling in the Virgin Islands !) and Michael and Galen were super kind and patient with my sister in law who was extremely nervous about snorkeling. When we found a purple flag at the Baths (indicating jellyfish in the water) they quickly made other plans for us so that we could make the most of our day. Great fun and great crew! I highly recommend this amazing boat experience!
