I’ve been going to the Cayman Islands for 10 years and now and we started at staying on seven mile beach in a hotel room that was too cramped for a family of 6 like mine, 3 years in a row we’ve been staying at Discovery Point Club and it’s easy parking, beautiful beaches, and great customer service. It’s always easy to get a beach chair and umbrella or even the hut which is great for a family with breathe-taking views especially of the sunsets. The crystal clear water along with a small reef makes this place ideal for snorkeling and seeing schools of fish.

Each condo is unique and different almost all of them are completely updated and renovated with a modern new look. We’ve stayed at different condos 3 times now and none are the safe but the benefits inside like having an espresso machine or complementary bottle of champagne just for staying is probably the best treatment for any vacation. The best part is you can take a virtual tour of the room on discovery point clubs website and choose the condo you want to stay in instead of other ones picking for you at random.

Philip C, Your history on Grand Cayman seems to follow my family's. Years ago we decided no more hotel room, crowded beach, high priced breakfast or lunch for kids.
Your suggestion to use the DPC web site to photo tour the condos is wise. The guest selects condos and contacts the DPC on availability. No surprises equals happy guests and repeat guests, such as your family.
We look forward to your next visit.
Thanks, Todd

I don't want to write a negative review, as there were many positives at the Discovery Point Club. However, overall I have to say that there were a lot of small negatives which turned our holiday from superb to just pretty good. Firstly, the good stuff: the view from the upper storey condos over the sea is fantastic, and these units are right on the beach. We visited in August, and it was never busy on the beach - we always had our pick of deckchairs. However, there is a lot of broken coral as you enter the sea, so if you are barefoot it is only a matter of time before you tread on it. We only got small cuts, but it is painful! For first time snorkelers I guess the local reef from this beach would be OK, but 99% of the coral is dead and we really didn't see many fish at all. It was also quite rough while we were there, which was surprising for the west coast of a Caribbean island. At Smith's Cove the waves were big enough to break over my head when I was standing in the shallows!

However, paradoxically the location is the biggest negative at Discovery Point. Yes you are right on the beach, but really you are on the wrong part of the beach. We stayed here because it was a lot cheaper than the heart of 7 mile beach, but the problem is that there is nothing within walking distance. There is one large supermarket about 15 minutes walk away, and one restaurant next to it. If you plan to stroll out in the evening and choose where to eat from a range of restaurants or hotels, then you can't do it from here. Realistically you have to have a car if you want to go anywhere or do anything.

It's a shame, as our condo was very nice, the staff were all very helpful and the beach was picturesque. Much as I generally prefer a quiet location, this is just too far from the action.

simonrip, Thanks for the review. It seems that the negatives you mention are issues out of our control. Apparently you were there during an infrequent SW wind, if there were waves at Smith's Cove.Your are correct that being west facing, Seven Mile Beach is usually very calm. There is easy entry into the Caribbean a few steps to the south. It must have been the west wind that stirred up the water and made snorkeling less than ideal. If you read the TA reviews snorkeling is usually spectacular.

Being at the quiet north end of SMB is what attracts most of our repeat guests. They want to avoid the busy hotel cruise ship human traffic closer to George Town. There is inexpensive public transportation that continually runs on West Bay Rd. and will stop right at DPC. But, having a car is certainly a plus as many of the TA reviews state. You don't say how you got to Smith's Cove which is on the far side of George Town in South Sound. Your statement "Much as I generally prefer a quiet location, this is just too far from the action", seems to be a personal paradox and problems DPC can't fix.
That said, thank you for the nice comments on the quality of the condo, the grounds, and staff. Issues that are in our control.

Stayed in unit (#20), very clean and fully stocked. Uninhibited views of the majestic ocean! Having been to the island and stayed in 5*hotels, we were blown away with Discovery Point. This is one of the best ways to really enjoy the island on your terms. If you require the 5-star service/spa/meals etc go down the road, and leave this to those of us who cant get enough of the quiet scenery and breathtaking sunset views!! The staff both in the office (Annrose) and housekeeping went above and beyond. We are glad we Discovered!

Room Tip: Although all units are oceanfront, 3rd Fl are great for the views

kimemiles, You hit the points that made us repeat renters for 18 years and now an owner for 11. 5 Owl Eyes is way better than 5 stars.

Easy access to groceries, dining and ocean activities. Cabañas always available. Easy-going guests. Made our stay so much more pleasant and relaxing. Would definitely come back and stay here! Thank you!

AMP868, Your most welcome. I think your comment on easy going guests is right on the money. DPC is like one large extended family to new and repeat guests. Do "definitely come back"

We had awesome trip to Cayman....ocean as clear as swimming pool and very safe environment. We stayed in unit 35 and were impressed! Perfect location on beach...7 Mile beauty but away from port and crowd and best snorkeling location on the island! Front desk gave great suggestions for restaurants and booked tours for us. We did stingray and dolphin and couple other tours on days ships not in port to avoid crowds (check port authority schedule). Cooked in condo but savored some great meals out too. Rented car and toured island one day (finally got used to driving on right side of road the day we left...ha!). Best trip we have ever taken!

scpatton, If you got used to driving on the "right side" I hope that was "correct side" and you were in the left lane! LOL.
Sounds like it was our first trip to Cayman and you experienced its magic. If you are like over half of our guests you will be back and
DPC wants to be your destination.
Thanks for the nice review,
Todd
