We spent a week here from Feb 10 to 17. This resort is very large. Our room was ocean front on the highest floor and the furthest from the lobby. We both are over 65 and getting around can sometimes be difficult. The restaurants were far away from the hotel. The food was only okay. I had Lasagna at the Italian restaurant and it was burnt and dry. The restaurants were close to the "Preferred" guest hotels. These are for people who paid a lot extra for this privilege. We did sit through the three hour presentation on how to become a preferred member. Lots of pressure even after we said NO several times. The only good thing about that was we had a Romantic meal on the beach paid for because of this.(of course we were not on the beach but up on the rocks) Thank goodness the meal was good. We also paid for Club Mobay which was a waste of money. It wasn't any faster getting through the line and it was extremely far from our departure flight. We would definitely not go back to a Secrets resort again.

We have been here three times. The first two were fantastic. Last time was not as relaxing for our anniversary. We brought 27 people along for stays for 3 to 14 days as we renewed our vows. Several were sick after the dinner reception including myself and our son in law. I had to track down the resort manager to bring this to his attention.

We are uvc members and have been to 13 different amresorts. As well as several sandals. Overall great experience here.

We just returned from a quick long weekend getaway to this resort and if you can get a good deal on this resort it's a very nice place to spend a few days...we just wish we would have had the whole 4 days we were promised.
Our trip started off on a very negative note after an almost 12 hour delay by Sunwing (if you take nothing else from this review...NEVER travel with Sunwing, they have the worst performance record in the industry as well as the lowest compensations when they don't deliver as promised, and appaling customer service.)
We usually stay at Couples brand resorts when we are in Jamaica but wanted to be close to the airport as it was such a quick trip. The resort is a nice quick drive and expecations were met on that front.
We didn't get to our room until almost 3am (Peter works nights and checked us in - very nice man) and we were too tired to take a good look at it that night.
When we awoke in the morning we ended up very happy with our view from our large private balcony; it included views of the Preferred pool and ocean views as well as the hills of Montego Bay which are just beautiful day and night.
We were a bit dissappointed with the mold on the ceiling as well as in the water closet from where the shower leaks. We also didn't have the promised robes and slippers in the room, nor the alarm clock and docking station. We called down to let housekeeping know and said they didn't have to rush up with them, but the next time they cleaned would be fine. We never received them.
The 1st day housekeeping arrived during the day while we were at the beach. The next morning as we were leaving our room we saw housekeeping working a bit further down the hall, but when we returned to our room later that day (almost 5pm) our room still wasn't cleaned. We made sure we hadn't left the privacy light on all day so we aren't sure why they weren't there but decided we would shower and get ready for dinner and worry about it later. When we went to leave for dinner around 6:30pm we found a note on our door saying they came to clean the room but couldn't get in due to our request for privacy. Very surprised they would show up after 5pm expecting to clean a room. As we had to leave the next day we decided we would let it pass.
The rooms are decent and fairly spacious but the beds are horrible. I know some people rave about them so all we can think is that ours was due for a change. It was way too soft and very lumpy and seemend of poor quality. The pillows were worse.
The pools all looked nice, but we prefer the beach so spent no time at them.
Though the water and swimming area at the beach was very nice, the lounger area of the beach was a big disappointment. Shade is minimal and there is a huge slant to the ground so it's not easy to get comfortable. We ended up digging our chairs in and toughing it out but it certainly was less than desirable. Towel service and drink service though was among the best we have experienced.
We were limited with time and missed one whole dinner due to the Sunwing issues but the food we did have at the a la cartes was very good (Blue Mountain and Bordeaux) The views from Bordeaux and the Piano Bar at night were stunning. The buffet was adequete and had some variety but we have had much better. The Barefoot Grill had good burgers and patties, we did not enjoy our lunch at Oceana other than the salad bar.
The resort is a little louder and has more of a party atmosphere than we are used to or prefer, but it wasn't overwhelming so we were still able to enjoy our time.
The grounds are well manicured but very sparse which was surprising considering other Jamaican resorts we have stayed at and how lush and beautiful they can be.
The biggest complaint we had was the horrible scent in the lobby and a few other areas. I'm not sure what it was, or why they would choose to have that, but I had to avoid the areas using it as much as possible as it was very offensive.
We're not sure if we would return due to lack of comfortable areas at the beach, but if you like to hang out by the pool or are looking for a good group holliday or girlfriend getaway this is a good option at the right price.

There isn’t anything wrong with this resort, but there wasn’t anything that blew us away. We’ve been to several all-inclusive resorts over the years and this one was our least favorite.

The food at most of the restaurants was fair to poor. Our group agreed that the Italian restaurant was the best of the lot. Oceana, the seafood restaurant, was pretty bad. The French and Mexican restaurant were so-so.

Portions were really small, too. Some of the guys in our group started ordering two entrees, two appetizers, etc. Room service had small portions also. The quesadilla had two pieces. What do they do with the rest of it?

The other kind of strange thing was that there were 3-4 single plug outlets in the entire bedroom, one of which was in the bathroom. In the day and age of electronics and rechargeable batteries, this made things a little challenging. My wife and I both use electric toothbrushes so had to alternate who would use the charger each night.

We haven’t been to a Secrets resort prior to this trip,but if they’re all like this, I’d prefer to stay elsewhere. Thank goodness this was a company trip.

We stayed at Secrets St James in feb 2018 and loved every minute of it. They have everything you could possibly need and offer anything you want to do. Our goal was to relax and soak up the sun, we enjoyed the beaches and pools daily; the staff was so friendly and amazing, I couldn't ask for more. They are friendly, engaging, there for anything you need. We were never bothered when we didn't want to be and always served when we needed it. Everyone couple needs to go here to get away and relax! Huge shout out to Stewart w/Captains Water sports, Erika at the pool bar and Neco in the hotel bar; you all made our trip extra-amazing!

Room Tip: Oceanfront suites wont let you down
