We have just arrived home from our stay at Palm Grove. We stayed for 9 nights in a beachfront studio and as far as beachfront locations go, this is pretty unbeatable.
Magnificent views and snorkelling are right on your doorstep and you have access to kayaks and snorkelling equipment.
There are loads of dogs on the island, they are friendly and love a pat and a snack! The roosters are not so lovely..... they start making noise at around 1.30am but it just adds to the experience.
The studio itself was simple, clean and well appointed. The staff offered to make our room up each day, which we really didn’t need and were happy to supply us with fresh towels when we wanted them.
The resort is within easy walking distance to a supermarket, a cafe, restaurant/bar.
We did think it was a lovely place to stay but our experience at the onsite restaurant ‘Yellow Hibiscus’ was disappointing at best.
We ate there on our first night and it was fine. We tried another day for lunch and we were told we could eat there “if we wanted but there’d be a bit of a wait”. We ate there, there was no longer a wait than anywhere else I’ve eaten and we got the impression they didn’t want people there. The staff were literally dragging their feet!
On our last night we decided to try again and waited at the bar to be served a drink. The lady rudely told me to sit down and we’d be served. We sat. We waited. And we waited some more. We were blatantly ignored and eventually left and cooked our own dinner in our room.
All in all we thought it was a lovely place to stay if you’re looking for a quiet holiday but we would not recommend the onsite restaurant as there are so many wonderful options on the island.

A beautiful location on the beach on the south side of Rarotonga. We had a beachfront bungalow studio which was well equipped, a comfortable king bed, 3 piece bathroom, closet and kitchen. The view is tremendous and the breezes off the sea wonderful. Great staff. The complex has a pool, free snorkelling equipment, water shoes and sea kayaks. Very quiet and relaxing. The snorkelling is brilliant, many many fish and lots of species.

A series of little bungalows situated on either side of the road ...beach front side and garden side. Accommodation is studio or mini apartment style. We had a one bedroom (king comfy bed) w separate lounge/ eating opening onto a rear deck overlooking private tropical garden. The deck also had dining table & chairs. To the front of unit was a tiny well equipped kitchen and a separate bathroom. Everything was spotlessly clean, freshly painted and worked etc however could not disguise the fact that these units are more 80's chic than the 2018 white laminate and marble glitz. There is a great in ground pool with large spa attached, sunlounges circle the pool and an undercover barbecue area along w wicker tables & chairs share the space. This is also the wifi hot zone. The reception, & storage space for beach activity equipment is a short walk away on the way to the restaurant and breakfast eating area. A continental breakfast is included in tariff. The restaurant in addition to providing evening meals to the general public had happy hour every Friday evening and a barbecue on Sundays. Live music is played at both of these evenings with current contemporary plus get up & dance 80's music. The standard of one of the local young composer/performers was magical. Chooks, chicks and roosters meander through the gardens (as in all of Rarotonga). Walk across the road, past a string of studio beachfront bungalows & you are in the lagoon with some of the best snorkelling we have experienced. You immediately lose yourself amongst the hugh variety of colourful reef fish. The bonus ....as Rarotonga is located within a reef the water temperature is constant and there are no sharks to be worried about. One last thing the staff are delightful, shy, helpful, have a quirky sense of humour when engaged and generally get on and do what they are there to do ...all about making your stay enjoyable without fawning. Downside ...split systems have a shine in the night temperature light which lights room ..not good for people who need darkness to sleep.
