“Easy to get to. ”

Cottonwood Spring Oasis
Reviewed 31 May 2018 via mobile

Really pretty little area for a quick stop to take some pictures. Not quite as good as some of the others in the area but easy to get to.

The path has dire warnings of dangers of leaving it, including reference to cobalt, arsenic( I think was mentioned) in a list of life threatening minerals. It was hard to believe how these might have been present but had to take it seriously.

The towering palms were impressive

If you drive down to the end of Cottonwood Oasis Road, you’ll come to the trail head for the Lost Palms Oasis Trail. But right at the start of that trail is a small oasis, the Cottonwood Spring Oasis. It’s basically a cluster of greenery (palm trees mostly) surviving in the middle of the desert. If you’re not planning to hike to one of the other oases in Joshua Tree, this is a quick and easy way to see one. It’s only about a 0.1 mile walk on a flat trail, or you can see the oasis from the parking lot.

If you are in the southern section of the park, you must stop at this oasis. It is amazing to see the palm oasis in the middle of such a dry desert. The very short ramp down to the palms is easily accessible to everyone. Cactus wrens were nesting inside the palm fronds.

This is the easiest Oasis to visit. Drive up. Walk a very little bit. However, it was also super amazing!
