Extremely strenuous trail. It is a lot of work. You are basically going up steps the whole way. Second part of the trail is rough so be prepared. I can now mark this trail off my list.

Didn’t venture out too far around this area because the good section of the trail, including the top where the Chimney Top rocks actually are, is closed. Still, this area is very scenic and there are fun things to see including crossing a decent size bridge near the start of the hike. It’s unfortunate that this area is still closed down from the fires, it would have been fun to explore more of the area.

We were drove from Gatlingburg, TN. It was a short drive to get to this view point. Since it was in the morning, sun came out and against us. It would be much better if one can get there in the afternoon time...

It take a 2-mile hiking trail (with 1,700 feet elevation gain) from the Chimney Tops Trail parking area is on Newfound Gap Road and it's about seven miles past Newfound Gap. Difficult trail so you should be careful of your health conditions too will take easily 3-4hours

After the fire last November, all the locals thought this trail would be closed for at least a year. I am happy to report that when I was in the Park last week, found out that it is open, but not all the way to the top. There are areas still being worked on and please stay ON the trail. the fire caused enough damage and going off trail only cause more. This is a beautiful and vey unique section of the Park for hiking and day trips.
Enjoy
