“Chimney Tops Trail still blocked off to the public”
Review of Chimney Tops

Chimney Tops
Reviewed 31 July 2017

Due to the wildfire now approaching almost a year ago (in November), trail remains closed. Prior to vegetation regrowth this spring, highly obvious of the severity of the damage caused by 2 reckless teens (who amazingly 'walked' without ANY punishment about 2 weeks ago). The Park hydro-seeded grass immediately after fire containment. You will still see the burned mountain sides and burned trees along the roadside. Although trail is closed, definitely a very nice relaxing and scenic drive!

The Chimneys trail is totally burnt. But the top of the Chimneys look like no vegetation. Totally burnt out! They are working on the trail to fix it.

On the way up into the Smokeys from Gaitlinburg you can view Chimney Tops from many different pull offs on the road. Read the signs and take great pictures of these beautiful mountains.

We were able to take some good pictures of Chimney Tops from the road in June. The damage from the fire was evident, but it appears that there is also new growth. Even from the road, the mountain is impressive.
