I have stayed in luxury hotels around the world and the Hyatt Regency Kyoto is at the top of the list. The standard of service by EVERY employee should be the standard by which all other hotels' staff is measured. From the taxi greeter, to the bell desk workers, to the FANTASTIC front desk workers, to the restaurants (oh, what restaurants!) staff -- especially the kind and wonderful lobby grill/breakfast Restaurant Manager, we felt like we were royalty. The staff at this hotel exemplifies the best of Japanese "hospitality culture" and deserves to be very proud of the amazing job they do, and the example they set. Our room (suite) was beautiful, simple, elegant, and perfect. We truly loved our stay.

My family and I stayed at the hotel for 3 nights . While it is a nice Hyatt it is very overpriced. Rooms are very nice and roomy though . Italian restaurant in the hotel was very good . Breakfast buffet was pretty good but not great . Hotel has a nice Japanese feel to it however .

As noted in other reviews I have done of Hyatt properties, a couple of important disclaimers: first, I have Globalist status (55+ nights/year at Hyatts) and have stayed at Hyatts all over the world. As a result, we get lounge access and other perks that you may not, depending on your situation. In addition, this was part of a trip where we also stayed in Hyatts in Tokyo and Osaka.

This is a nice hotel. The staff is excellent and very attentive. They make up for most of the property limitations. A few key points:
- The rooms are tastefully done, and well appointed. However, they are small, even by luxury hotel standards in Japan. And the walls are not very sound proof.
- The bathrooms have excellent new fixtures, Hansgrohe and Toto. But the sliding door that conceals the toilet can't be locked and is acoustically transparent. 2 teens sharing a 2 bed room turns somewhat awkward.
- The restaurants are very good. The breakfast service is uneven, but the basement "fancy" restaurant had excellent food and service.
- The gym feels like an afterthought, way off in a corner basement location. However it has decent equipment and was never full.

Lastly, from a points perspective, this hotel feels somewhat over-priced, especially compared to the Hyatt Tokyo properties.

The quality of the hotel and its staff made our stay in Kyoto truly memorable. The staff were fantastic, always polite and genuinely interested in making us feel special. Mr Takeshisa Abe and all the staff should be complimented on the way they treated us and are great ambassadors for the Hyatt Regency name.

What a lovely hotel, peaceful, wonderful position, our suite was gorgeous, especially loved the bathing room.
HR Kyoto is in a wonderful position in beautiful Kyoto, a short drive to many wonderful temples.
We felt very at ease at this hotel and had a lovely stay, all the food and our room service breakfasts were excellent.
