This lovely building was built by the Japanese and completed in 2019. Visitors can be admitted for a free tour in the morning before 11:30. It is worth it on many levels. The exhibits are informative and interesting. It is a strong statement about Taiwan that they have no problem with honoring a building built by the Japanese. But perhaps the most powerful point it makes is that Taiwan is a true democracy. One of the exhibit rooms is a celebration of free speech and the right to dissent. On the way out is a photo op spot in which you can take a picture with a cut out of President Tsai in quite a whimsical pose. This is quite a contrast to other, grimmer, countries.
