I was in Taichung for business and decided to extend my stay for a weekend with my wife. The colleagues recommended this as a "romantic" place. To me, however its whole concept was shockingly creepy. The check-in was at the security gate, without even getting out of car, then you are driven to what is essentially a parking garage and the room is directly above. So I got out of the taxi, lugged my whole baggage over the stairs to discover a huuuuuge room. It must be at least a thousand square feet with a humongous TV and a luxury sofa to watch it from, a massage chair, a lot of furniture, many colours all over from the carpets to wall and celinng, many, many decorative things hanging from the ceiling, the big bed in a big alcove with a chequered design on walls around it and small LEDs wherever the lines crisscrossed. A lot many dark colours in the interior. And then there was the bathroom. Its"door" was about 20 feet wide and the bathroom was big enough to grow vvegetables and grains to feed a small family. There was a rain shower, a lot of decorative plants inside, a jacuzzi area and so on. Children could play hopscotch in that bathroom, and there would still be spare place for a pingpong table and more. It was black granite everywhere. Sounds great, right? The hitch there was the commode was locates in a corner in a very cramped recess. I couldn't figure why. There was enough space here to build a group shower for twenty people and the toilet would not accommodate a reasonably fat person! And the creepy part was, not a window anywhere. The outside world cannot see you and you cannot see the outside world. Gave me goosebumps of claustrophobic horror in the middle of so much space. I like the idea of a totally private space to spend time with my lady love, but this was a bit too much. There is a difference between being private and hiding. If i have to have a tryst so clandestine, i would prefer to give it a pass. Not my cup of tea. It was then that i spotted a selection of condoms on the bedside table and decided to get out.
To be fair, there must be some people who will find this place very enjoyable. In my case, i found the staff there extremely understanding. They not only refunded my full money ( you have to pay up-front at check-in), but also guided my taxi driver to a nearby good business hotel where I had a great time.
