We stayed at Ximending and took an Uber to get there for less than NTD500 per trip for 5 adults. There are two drop off point for the transport, and we got dropped off at the front gate and we walked up a flight of steps to the gate, which many takes pictures there. Walk for about 5 more minutes to reach the Museum. The other drop off point is closer to the museum. Plenty of taxis at the front drop off point, hence no worry about transport from the museum.

Water bottles are prohibited hence, do stow them away at the locker before entering the museum. Plenty of toilets in the vicinity, and that's a big plus. Guests were supposed to keep voice level to a minimum but some visitors did not seem to notice and still goes about talking in loud voices.

The exhibition was "The Literati's Ordinaries: A Proposal of Life from the 17th Century" while we were there. Managed to see the famed "Cabbage Jadeite", "Zun wine vessel in the shape of animal with metal wire and turquoise inlay" amongst others.

Spent about 1.5 hours at the museum before heading off for lunch. There is a cafe at the museum building but we went over to the other building where "Silks" restaurant is located. There is another cafe called Fuchunju at the basement of that building.

There is a large number of tours with tour leaders who forget they have microphones and listener systems and who do yell. Many of the members of their groups are rude but that does not take away from the splendour of this museum. It contains magnificent items really well displayed with many very good interpretive signs. The bronze and ceramics appealed to us, our friends preferred the jade and calligraphy but we spent two days here working pretty hard to see everything and did not succeed. There is a lot of gorgeous material to enjoy. The cost is modest, the staff are friendly, smiley and helpful and this is a visit not to miss.

We took the MRT to Shillin Station and walked out to the main road to a waiting Bus #815. It dropped us off at the bottom of the Palace Museum steps 15 minutes later. 10 m to the west was the start of a gentle incline framed in a tunnel of trees to the entrance. Our 9 AM tickets(US$ 21 for 2) were discounted after presenting our tickets from the Taiwan National Museum.
After entering the exhibit area, we walked to the right to the large 17th C Buddha triad (behind glass) for the restroom and elevator to begin our walk on the 3rd floor. We progressed through the well marked exhibit halls (Jade, Bronze, Porcelain, Buddha, Treasure and Furniture) descending to the 2nd and 1st floors stopping at noted pieces to read the description in English. We spent little time in the historic books, calligraphy and painting halls and had to work to avoid the increasing crowds of guided tour groups as the morning progressed.
We stuck to our areas of interest as a strategy to deal with the large number of exhibits, the hordes of visitors, and our energy level. In less than 3 hours, we descended the entry hall escalator to board the R#30 Bus which runs directly to the Shillin Station, a very successful morning.

Very interesting museum for Chinese civilization history. Specially interesting are the Jade collections and the pottery from the Zhou period.
Access by metro is difficult. Best take a taxi. For return, askinformation desk to call a taxi.

Very impressive collection of old Chinese Art - probably, the largest and best collection of Chinese art. I went on a Friday evening. No crowds at that time. It was amazing. The landscape paintings are magical. Highly recommend.
