Unfortunately we came with the volcano boat trip which left us nothing but limited restaurants to be chosen on this Thirasia island. We made an effort to walk to the end of this side for this restaurant and caught attention on its beautifully decorated windmill.

Ordered a meatball dish with tomato sauce and fried cod fish. Meatballs are delicious but the cod fish is nothing more than deep fried floured fish pieces and pre cooked French fries.

Water front is great though.

Arrival on Thirasia by tourist boat (we were on a volcano cruise tour) can be a daunting experience, as 100 people all head off the boat to eat and drink at the same time. And then, five minutes later, another boat arrives! Unfortunately, the eateries on the beach front at Ormos Korfou are all geared to this fast food market so don’t expect refined dining. We took the strategy of walking to the farthest waterfront restaurant, The Windmill, to avoid the crowds - and it worked. Don’t worry, it’s not that far - just 200m or so - but most people won’t walk even that far!
Our reward was a seafront table in a small family run restaurant that served reasonable lunch fare - honest food, you might say. Nothing special, but cheap and decent enough. If you prefer to pile in to the inappropriately named ‘Captain John’ right by the harbour - as recommended by the tour guides, whom I’m guessing get a free meal for their efforts - then be my guest, but it didn’t look like our cup of tea.
Overall, cheap, simple, local, friendly... no regrets.

My absolute favorite restaurant to eat when at Korfos Harbor (I've tried a few over the years).

If you're facing the water, then it’s the last one to your right and worth a couple of extra minutes walking to get there. Since it’s a little removed from the main quayside, it never feels too crowded, even when there are a number of boats docked. You can sit and watch all the people swimming in the harbor, walking about or viewing the marine traffic on the caldera.

Jacob, along with his multi-generational family who help run it, will do all they can to make your visit an enjoyable one. I've visited numerous times over the years and have never had a bad meal.

If I'm staying on Thirassia - as I was this past June - I'll walk down the 'Steps of Doom' from Manolas to the harbor mid-morning, swim / sunbathe for a few hours, then when the shade hits my sunbathing spot, I'll head to the Windmill - generally around 15.00.

This gives enough time for a relaxed meal and some wine, sit back and enjoy the views, feed the fish over the edge of the wall with bread and then head to the 17.00 boat to Riva and/or Ammoudi.

Enough background.

My last visits were three consecutive days in June 2017.

I tend to have at least one main, sometimes a starter (not always) and some wine and bottled water. Occasionally a soda as well if I feel like a 'sugar hit'.

On the day I had a starter, it was their extremely tasty tzatziki, which I highly recommend.

My mains on each day were: Grilled tomato balls/fritters (tomatokeftedes), Souvlaki and grilled fish.

All were well-cooked with loads of flavor and very enjoyable.

Whilst I may not be a wine-buff, the red offered was very drinkable. A carafe cost €5 from memory.

With [a starter - sometimes], main, carafe or wine and bottled water and tip, my bill is generally between €15-20. I think the most I've ever spent is €25 - probably the time I ordered a second carafe of wine :)

The WC's are upstairs - one each for Ladies and Gents. If you're by the cash register - with your back to the water - it’s to the far left. If you have mobility problems, the WC's would be difficult to access - but the view of the harbor and caldera from the top of the stairs is just stunning. Truly a 'loo with a view'. Take a look before you (carefully) come down.

The restaurant is right at the water's edge with awning / umbrellas covering the tables for the most part - but there are a couple with no shade.

The water is crystal-clear and you can see small fish below, which will rush into a feeding frenzy if you throw some bread into the water. It’s the only place on Santorini or Thirassia I regularly see more than one or two fish. They know where the food supply is :)

The Windmill primarily opens for the volcano tour boats - so, generally around 12.00 noon to late afternoon. Turnover of tables is brisk, so even if its busy, there should be a table coming free shortly.

Whilst I generally pay cash, they do accept credit cards these days.

Friendly, welcoming, tasty food, great views. I dream of this place when I'm back in London.
