We've dined at Table Table's all over the country and the Springwood at nearby Tytherington was a favourite (until it changed hands), but tonight's experience at the Cheadle Royal was something else.

Table booked in advance (for 5 adults plus 4 children) and arrived early to have a drink in the bar area, so far so good.

Went through to our table and friendly (but apparently new as being supervised) polite chap took our orders.

Here unfortunately was where it all started going wrong. After an hour our food arrived but the children's meals had somehow become adult orders and other items ordered were missing.

When queried with staff they appeared unsure as to what to do, and also unable to deal with simple requests for condiments and a jug of water (both of which we ended up going to the bar for). All slightly surreal.

Eventually time for dessert came, and we placed our orders (with apologies for no cream being available to make the desserts in the normal manner!?). 55 mins later still nothing had arrived and we again enquired at the bar, which from the young female manager's reaction appeared to constitute an inconvenience to her rather than us.

After another further wait and query as to whether we would be getting our desserts we decided to leave and went to pay our bill.

Predictably this was far from straightforward and our use of a promotional deal (as supposedly valued regular customers) sent the place into meltdown, with the member of staff on the till (female as mentioned above) berating the 'new' staff member in front of us for not registering the order correctly, which was rather embarassing for him I'm sure (irony being he was the most professional member of staff we met). Eventually we were paid up and left able to put our visit down to experience.

Throughout all this the restaurant was quiet and it was clear that there were nowhere near enough staff on regardless.

Our best experiences with Table Table and similar restaurants have been to those places where staff have been trusted to get on with their jobs, and given some responsibility and control (ie minor deviations from menus or set deals are simply sorted out), but this was the opposite.

Shame really as the set of main courses we actually did manage to get in our near 3hr visit were OK!.

Absolutely shocking service. We booked a table for 7 o’clock to make sure we had a table but it wasn’t very busy, in fact it was relatively empty by the time we sat down. It took them 35 mins to even come and take the order for drinks, never mind mains, in which we were ready to get up and go get somebody. After we ordered, 20 minutes passed and there was no signs of drinks. We then went up to the manager, Hannah and she said she would prepare the drinks straight away. Then another 20 minutes passed, by this time we had been in the restaurant 1 hour and 10 mins with no food and drink. The worst fact is the time we had wasted, in which we came there to celebrate the belated birthday of our daughter. It wasn’t busy at all and by the time we had left nobody was in. This has happened one year ago, the last time we came here and it’s happened again. When leaving, the manager didn’t even acknowledge us or recognise that she hadn’t given us any drinks or food. She offered us 40% off our next meal and no explanation of what had actually happened but blamed it on the staff being currently trained. Still doesn’t explain why we were sat waiting one hour ten minutes with not even a drink when she said she would bring us them. Would avoid this place at all costs and definitely will not be visiting again. Would give it no * if I could. Appalling service and appalling explanation from the manager with no assurance that our meals had been cooked, merely that we had been forgotten about.

Hadn’t been here for a while so when on business trip thought I would call in to catch up with old faces. It was all new staff !!! Mr Whitbread can you not keep staff?
How ever I was looked after by 2 wonderful new team members Heather ( my lovely) and a more elderly lady called Cathy

The new staff are great though, look after your needs with efficiency and manners

I was wondering where to go for an evening meal
I decided to go to Table Table Cheadle Royal

I had the Pork Pate with red onion chutney Which was excellent
I also had the mixed grille
Which was very good

Great meal
Great staff wonderful team effort

We visited this restaurant recently and was very pleased with both the food and also the friendly helpful staff especially the manager Mark. We have eaten here many times before and the food was hit and miss, mostly not being hot just tepid which is a real bug bear with me. The food on our recent visits has been piping hot and very good quality. The manager even went out of his way to provide a meal for my partner which was only on the lunch menu. The tables are cleared as people leave the bar area which previously they weren't and before you could sit down i had to clear up myself!!!! Well done Mark and all your staff. Keep up the great job you are doing we will be back more regularly now.
