We took a ride into the hills to see the 10 Castles and this was a stop along the way.
The pasta with shrimp was delicious. This is a no frills straight forward restaurant. Great views and local find.

My husband and I were travelling through Tuscany,he on a bicycle and me in a car. This day we went from Pescia to Popiglio and were looking for somewhere to stop for a coffee.Perched high up on the side of Vellano (around 550m),is this fabulous Trattoria. With a glass dining room, looking out to the valley below and the surrounding hills, the view isn't the only spectacular commodity. When asked if they made simple sandwiches,or in Italy,"panini",the owner told us to sit down and he would bring us some food.Shortly, he returned with a big platter of prosciutto, cheese and chunks of bread.Accompanied by great cups of cappuccino, our lunch was both filling and inexpensive. Next to us,a table of 8 (4 adults and 4 children),were having a feast of various homemade pastas and risotto;the food kept coming. All the outside tables were full, locals and tourists happy with their choice of eatery. Thanks Fabrizio for your excellent service.

This is our second stay in the mountain village of Vellano in Tuscany and Trattoria Manero ids the local eatery and whilst in teh village we tend to eat there fairly regularly. It is very traditional, there is no menu, and they speak very little english - perfect! We enjoy practising out appalling Italian and somehow get there in order to understand the options of the day and have always had a fabulous meal in the 'glasshouse' perched on the mountain side with spectacuar views across the hills. It is always good value and fun - love it.

This is a truly unique trattoria that has NO Menus. Why? Because the chef/owner prepares his dinners with today's freshest ingredients and everything is made with much detail and care. My travel party of 5 walked into Trattoria Manero a few weeks back after our host from Casa Verde (a great rental with a spectacular view) suggested that we eat here because it's the only restaurant in Vellano, just a 15 minute drive from Pesci. The chef personally greeted us and we sat comfortably in a room that offers an amazing view of the Pescia Valley. The chef told us that he had cooked several dishes for the day and he would bring out family style platters for us! We were thrilled because we knew we were in for a real treat. First course was the appetizers; crostini with tomatoes, Tuscan meats, white beans and polenta squares with grilled mushrooms on top. The main course consisted on three different pastas, each with it's own sauce; penne with mushroom sauce, tortellini with meat sauce and tagliatelle with cinghiale (wild boar meat sauce) Then came dessert! We were given an apple tart cake, a walnut cake and pannacotta with berries. Wait, there's more! We also drank an after dinner liqueur called Vino Santo. With dinner we had a Chianti Classico of course. The total for 5 hungry adults was only $100. I have to say that the Italian experience of a family meal prepared by an master chef was impressive and truly a unforgettable.
