Not up to the Hype

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 5 weeks agovia mobile
I don’t understand the hype over this resort. Have just returned from a two nights stay based on the great reviews. True it has amazing swimming pools and the staff are excellent but that’s where the five star quality ended for me. I found the dark rooms sparse and depressing, accessed along concrete blocks. The whole resort feels huge and impersonal. Breakfasts are tasty but the restaurant feels like a massive canteen. If you are looking for somewhere authentically Thai then I would look somewhere else.

Dear AliGreen,
Sawasdee krap,

Very unfortunate to read that you did not like the resort style and design and at this occasion, thank you for having shared your feedback to us. The Slate is indeed absolutely opposite from a very traditional Thai resort and this is what, in our opinion, a lot of Guests are seeking for: more authenticity, creativity, unique design.

Very sorry to read again that it was not your taste and please do not hesitate to reach me out personally should you wish any further feedback from the resort management side.

Thank you,

William Daguin

We just finished a week stay here in a “Pearl Suite” This hotel blew us away!

We were in Thailand for 17 nights.
My only regret was that we didn’t stay here a few more nights, which we spent over in Krabi at another nice resort. But not as nice as this!

Everything was outstanding from the grounds, the room, the bed, the price, the service and the location. A top-notch five star resort!

The room had a large soaking tub, two patios, a huge walk-in shower, and a huge walk-in closet.

This hotel is located about 15 to 20 miles north of the craziness of Patong, and only about 4Km or about 2 mi. from the HKT Airport.

It ‘s in a much quieter area than Patong and adjacent to the beach directly out the back gate.

The street following the beach behind the hotel is quiet and relatively short with numerous eateries, bars, shops and street food.

For those seeking nightlife, you might prefer Patong because things pretty much slows down for the night by 10 PM along the beach and there’s not a lot of nightlife here.

We purposely chose to stay here to avoid the craziness of Patong. Very relaxed and quiet here. Beautiful grounds.

There are three different pools. The general pool is huge. There is also an adult only pool if you don’t like being around little brats. We don’t have kids, don’t want kids.and really don’t even like kids or even being around them!

We didn’t dine at any of the restaurants , bar or use the spa, but they all looked posh!

They’ll wash six pieces of clothing per day for you for free. There’s also a self serve laundromat just out the front gate.

Hotel website said that they provided complimentary airport transportation, but when we asked about getting a ride to the airport the day we checked out, they called us a taxi and we paid a minimal price to ride a couple of miles over. It was only about a five minute ride. No big deal, though. And being very close to the airport, jet noise was basically nonexistent as the planes departing and landing were about 2 miles north up the beach and don’t directly overfly the hotel, but take off and landing out over the ocean.

It was an absolutely outstanding stay! The week went by way too fast! I could’ve stayed here a month!

Best part was it was only $220 USD per night. No resort fee. The last five years we’ve gone on vacation to Hawaii, Las Vegas and different Caribbean destinations and paid almost twice that amount per night for the same quality room! It was worth the 18 hour one-way flight just to get here for that savings.

My only very minimal complaint was there was no USB ports in the room to plug-in and charge your devices. We also had this problem at the other three hotels we stayed at in Thailand. Sure, there are outlets in the room, but since we have American plugs on our electronics,we have to use an adapter, and we only had one adapter.

We might very well return next year? Perhaps we’ll try one of their villas the next stay?

Five Stars all the way! A hidden gem!

Very unique hotel designed by Bill Bensley reflecting the local heritage of tin mining, with a collection of sculptures around the property and its very own mini art gallery. Accommodation, Food, Staff and Service were excellent. Close to beach with some lovely local restaurants specialising in fish.

What a fabulous hotel everything was perfection from start to finish staff, accommodation, grounds, food, we couldn't of asked for more it exceeded our expectations. We only stayed 3 days/2 nights but what a fabulous 3 days it was the whole ambience of the hotel, well kept grounds restraunts with impeccable food wether it being breakfast or a fabulous meal at the Black ginger restraunt, we opted for the Black Ginger experience there and Wow what a experience it was the food was out of this world. The staff went above and beyond to meet any requirements they were all so friendly and happy nothing was too much trouble for them it was all the little personal touches that made this hotel stand out from all the places we had stayed during our 3 weeks of travelling around Thailand. Our room was absolutely stunning and spacious the bed was so comfortable felt so special staying here couldn't of asked for anything more would like to say a massive thankyou to each and every member of the whole team for making our stay with you amazing finishing our trip to Thailand on a high.

This is a wonderful hotel within easy reach of the airport, but with no air traffic noise. We had a fantastic experience here. The staff are really what makes the place so special they are so kind and will do anything for you to make your stay perfect. An issue with the air conditioning in our room was swiftly dealt with and to our complete satisfaction thanks to the wonderful Noi in reception, thank you again Noi you are a true asset to the hotel. Breakfast was an amazing experience, plenty of different choices for all tastes and once again the staff led by the lovely Sue were superb. During our stay here we were fortunate to meet William the manager of the hotel, we had a few chats with him and told him how much we were enjoying our stay, William was genuinely interested in how things were going and it was nice to see him interacting with his guests a nice personal touch and a very nice man too, thank you William.
We only used one pool while we were there but we were well looked after with ice cold water and fresh fruit by Boy and Chocco they are great. It was nice to see the 30minute sunbed blocking rule enforced too, well done.
Overall our stay was excellent and we look forward to seeing everyone at the slate again soon.
Thank you all for your hospitality.

We spent 11 wonderful days at The Slate in early March 2024. The place is fantastic, and all of the staff are so friendly and helpfull - beyond expectations. Our goal was some days of quiet relaxtion..and that we really got. Total recharge.

The room, the resort, the pools and the restaurants..no stress..just a calm sense of feel-good. And the proximity to the beach and all the restaurants and snackplaces there - perfect!

We have just booked a new stay for next year..this time 12 nights. And we can`t wait.
