We met with friends for a weekday wine tasting and lunch at Oakridge. The wine tasting provided access to a reasonable range of Oakridge wines. The staff member was very knowledgeable about Oakridge wines in particular and wine generally. Although not indicated as available for tasting, we were able to taste several of the 864 Single Block wines and subsequently bought several bottles of these at the cellar door.
We then moved to the restaurant for lunch. The restaurant is similar to the tasting room in having wonderful views across the vines to the Yarra Ranges. Service was friendly and prompt. The menu is not extensive but provides some interesting choices. The smoked trout, smoked eel and 864 pumpkin entrees were all very good. I particularly enjoyed my choice of eel. For mains, we also enjoyed the dry aged duck and the slow cooked beef - the latter was very tender and rich in flavour. For dessert we shared some Gin, orange, mandarin, lemon myrtle, macadamia - a bit too tart for my liking but other members of our party enjoyed it more. The coffee was good. We also enjoyed an excellent Oakridge Cab Sav 2008.
