Owner description: The fascinating purple of the thyme mixed with the fragrances of the oregano, the sage, the julian, the marjoram in the atmosphere will stimulate our senses leading us to explore the garden of healing and aromatic herbs. We may collect some of them. Manolis will show us how to recognise the Cretan herbs and will reveal us the ancient secrets of how to use them for healing purposes and for cooking in our everyday life. At the same time a well hidden natural phenomenon is waiting for us to explore it. We will make a shortcut on our way up the hill, to find ourselves faced with some very interesting geological formations. The scenery is dramatically beautiful. The sunset will find us enjoying fantastic greens and vegetables, from Manolis’ garden cooked by his wife, delicious local cheese and authentic local wine. A unique experience into the beauty of Crete for all of us who love to stay in touch with mother Nature.

Very charming. Contact also the Ramos Tourist Office. They have a very comprehensive information matter.

We took a walk out to the "Chapel of the Black Madonna". Turned out to be a pretty adventurous walk, but it had everything - beautiful old houses around the town, rural landscapes, rugged rocky hillsides, barking dogs, friendly sheep, and (at least when we were there), mulberry trees dripping with ripe fruit. Thoroughly enjoyable experience.

Vamos is not on the tourist trail so remain relatively "unspoiled", though the cafes around the village square are welcoming to all visitors. It is good to sit under the shade of a eucaliptus tree, watch the comings and goings on the square and feel you have found "real" Crete! There is a wonderful cobble area in the old town, well worth a wander, along with a small art gallery/taverna. A visit to Vamos is not to be missed in my opinion.

Lovely walks, mostly off road following small paths. So much you see that can never be seen from a car...do it!

We loved the variety of walks offered in a series of booklets, and enjoyed the countryside so much more walking. There were unexpected views, sleepy villages, quiet valleys and busy beach areas. All in one walk!
