Stayed as a family of 5 during September 2017 in the ‘Orangina’ villa (one of three villas available).
The property is located a few minutes’ walk from the village of Kontomari, a village with significant history. No amenities (restaurants, market, etc) are in the village or within walking distance, so hire car is required. We hired a car to drive to local beaches, as well as all the main attractions in the Chania prefecture (Elafonissi, Falassarna, Balos, Samaria, etc) and chose to take a taxi to Chania town in the evening for dinner (~25e one-way).
The villa itself is stunning, enormous & architectural masterpiece – 3 bedrooms, two bathrooms, fully equipped kitchen, washing machine – the amenities list goes on forever! Lots of light, super clean & amazing landscape views of the mountains, village or sea depending on where you are viewing. The centrepiece is an amazing outdoor area – huge garden with beautiful orange & olive trees, crowned by a wonderful private pool.
We enjoyed incredible daily breakfasts (note no breakfast is available on Sundays), prepared by the wonderful chef Effie – a great mix of local delicacies as well as home grown produce – the best Crete has to offer.
We are very grateful to the owners (Despina & Nikos) for their hospitality (they kindly met us at Chania airport at midnight & due to our late arrival, gratefully organised beautiful refreshments back at the villa) and their passion for their villas and for all things Crete. A stay at Conte Marino is a very unique, luxurious, warm and relaxing experience and highly recommended if you visiting Crete. Thank you to the team and look forward to returning soon.
