Booking

Booked with Thomson for £1,096 for 7 days from 27 June 2017 - 4 July 2017 for 2 people. Flew at 7.20 from Gatwick to Chania. 3hr 55min flying time. 50 min transfer to hotel (5th drop off).

Hotel

Room 220 with balcony overlooking pool and sea. Hotel is on top of a small hill so the panoramic views are stunning, especially at sunset. Room had everything we needed. The pool, including infinity pool part, was fine and helped cool us down when temperatures reached 44 degrees. The drinks available from the bar were good with the local beer getting a thumbs up.

Food

Themed dinners each day (Ionian, Chinese, Round the World, Mediterranean etc). Food was 5* every night. Great choice and very good quality. Best food we’ve had at an all-inclusive. Also permitted to book the fish restaurant once per week, which was a really nice meal with great service.

Once a week you can also preorder a lunch box consisting of two sandwiches, banana and bottle of water, which was helpful when we went on an excursion.

Out & About

Elefonisi Beach
Booked the excursion with the Thompson rep at €49pp. 8.20am pick up and drove through mountains on coach. Quick stop off at a cave for 30 mins followed by another stop at a monastery for another 30 mins. Then 2.5 hours on the beach. A must see: described as the 'Maldives of Crete' with the clearest sea I've ever seen and pink (yes actually pink) sand at the shore line. Can see plenty of fish swimming around you. Then for an extra €12pp (payable in cash on the trip) you can get a boat trip down the coast to a quaint little greek village (those that didnt want to get boat can get on coach for 80 min journey). Unfortunately everywhere seemed to be closed until 6pm and with only an hour to explore there was limited you could do. We would have preferred to spend the extra time on the beach instead and head back from there. As it was, it was another 90min journey back to hotel from village.

Chania
Bus tickets available from hotel reception for €1.70pp. Bus stop at the bottom of the hotel driveway. 20 min ride in to town. Spent one day roaming around Chania, down all of its little alleyways and shops and around the venetian harbour where we were lucky enough to see a sea turtle (real highlight). Returned on another evening for a meal out in town - so many restaurants to choose from, we found a delightful open air traditional greek tavern with live music.

Some minor points for improvement:
1. No food available after 10pm (they say snacks/sweets available from 10pm-midnight but on the two days we checked there was what was left of some stale sandwiches and some sugar on a plate which may have had some donuts on it).
- No bottled water available at breakfast, could only get small cups until lunchtime.
- Slow to offer drinks in the restaurant.
- Pool bar staff were unfriendly and on more than one occasion actually very rude to my fiancee which lead me to complain to management.
- Animation team. Mon - Sat they would just play the same songs each day, do a ten minute water gym and set up a water polo match. Could be more creative. However...

WE LOVED OUR STAY HERE AND WOULD RECOMMEND TO ANYONE. THE FOOD ESPECIALLY WAS DELICIOUS WITH A GREAT CHOICE EVERY NIGHT. We don’t go back to the same places, but if we did, this would be top of our list.

Me and my mother visited here in late october and even though the weather wasn't the best, the bellinis and the delicious food made it all better. Not five stars because I wasn't completely sold on this place.

What a fantastic hotel, staff very friendly and set up on a hill overlooking the sea. Beautiful rooms(we had sea view). Hotel room was lovely, very clean and very comfy beds. It was my birthday while we were there and the hotel delivered a beautiful chocolate cake to the room on my birthday, lovely touch, apparantly they check passports when you check in and this happens for all guests celebrating their birthday. Staff at the pool bar were extremely friendly and couldnt do enough to make the stay a good one. The only downside was we were there at the begining of may and there were only 3 other British couples, the food was catered for the majority of the visitors and I found the food quite disappointing we ate out quite a few times, though the breakfast was really good. Theres a busstop at the bottom of the hill , buses are really cheap and a good way to go out and explore. Overall good holiday apart from the food. Infinity pool was gorgeous. There are shops and bars at the bottom of the hill, with plenty more a short walk if you turn right at the bottom of the hill, or go left and take the bus to the next little town.

Room Tip: we booked with first choice rather than thomsons as you automatically got sea view without paying any supplements

What do you want from a holiday?... Good standard/clean hotel/incl.rooms; welcoming & helpful Hotel Staff; Good and varied selection of food; Good hotel facilities & Good weather - Panorama Hotel, Chania didn't disappoint! Really enjoyed our recent 1-week stay and would most definitely return to this hotel. If you wish to see some of the island, a hire car is a must.

Room Tip: Sea/Pool view rooms would be more expensive - all views however are good.
