Really efficient and helpful staff, the young tall man at the reception. We (a bigger group) were getting ready for a wedding and he kindly accommodated the hairdressers at short notice without us even asking him to do so. The room was spacious enough and comfortable, with a nice balcony, and the hotel had a very relaxing sauna and small swimming pool with a view to the garden - paradise! The food was also really good at the restaurant, both the plentiful choices and lunch that we enjoyed there. The place is 2.5km away from the nearest train station Ehrenhausen, other restaurants 5 min walk and a short drive to various wineyards! There is also a lake with activities nearby. Definitely a great place to be in Styria.
The only downside was the lack of aircon (we could not control the temperature, which we noticed in other hotels in Austria) and the noise from the cars passing as it’s on the main street if you opened the window while sleeping.

The Weinlandhof is situated in Gamlitz, a small wine village in south of Styria (Austria) near the border to Slovenia. It is an ideal point to stay if you want to taste the excellent
white wines in this region. Welschriesling, Sauvignon Blanc or White Burgundy are my favorites. The Weinlandhof is a nice, clean and charming hotel. It is private owned and you can feel it quickly. Rooms as nice and clean, some of them with air-condition. You find a private parking space, a small pool and a nice restaurant with terrace. the breakfast is regional and offers a nice selection. A very special and unique idea is the free taxi transfer to many wine makers and restaurants in the region.

Room Tip: Ask for a room which does not face the road.

When planning our trip to explore the wineries in southern Styria, I struggled to find resources and advice on how to get around. We absolutely loved the Weinlandhof! Gamlitz is a charming town, walkable with a few restaurants and a large grocery store. It is a perfect base for exploring this exquisite part of the world. The owners of the Weinlandhof were welcoming, warm and helpful. They arranged for the free taxi to pick us up in Ehrenhausen. They delivered a bottle of champagne to our room to help celebrate our anniversary, enjoyed on the balcony enjoying the view. They helped us map out a great day on the eBikes. Favorite wineries were Regele and Pulz. We rented the little electric car the next day 20 euros and drove all around enjoying lunch at Tscheppe.

We ate dinner at the Weinlandhof both nights and had fantastic food! They have both innovative new dishes as well as excellent classic examples of Styrian food.

The overall experience in this area far exceeded anything I expected. Amazing food, lovely dry white wines, stunning views, friendly people! The wineries open their doors and give seemingly endless tastings for no fee. You will likely be tasting with one of the owners. And the facilities are beautiful, modern. The buschenshanke is a must.
