You know how some holidays you stand back and watch things go wrong for other people due to their own errors, mismanagement or just back luck, and think 'oh it's "those" people'? We were "those" people on this trip. If it wasn't for the help and assistance of the entire staff at Hotel Montblanc, our holiday would have been a very different experience.

By way of examples;
* Attempting to get cash out at the ATM at the ski lifts. We'd been warned it may not work for international cards, and they were correct. The next morning how best to get to a working ATM and were driven to the ATM.

* Bookings were made on our behalf for restaurants, both in the area and later in our stay around other parts of Japan.

* We'd left a bag in a locker at the lift station and were driven up to collect it. What's more, we were then driven direct to our dinner venue without us asking.

* Private shuttle was arranged for us (small charge) in the hotel bus to various other ski areas.

* We were dropped to the local train station to catch our early morning train, and all cold foods were available for us, plus hot tea and coffee. This was well before the rest of the guests had woken for the day.

* The best was that we'd accidentally taken another guest's skis with us on a day trip to the other end of the hills. When we came back, we'd discovered the affected person had hire arranged for them at no charge to them. When we offered to pay, we were politely informed it is no problem and mistakes happen and repayment was not accepted.

* We had a snow board take off down the hill and were unable to locate it while at the resort we were skiing that day. The hotel was able to arrange for the delivery of it back to the hotel when it was found.

* All recommendations and advice regarding transport, food, ski conditions etc were without error.

To say Kenji-san (owner) and Souiza (manager) did everything in their power to ensure the trip was a success would be an understatement.

Before I finish, a little on what to expect form the accommodation and location:
* We stayed in a futon room for 6, with 4 people. While it was simple, it was clean and tidy, and toasty warm (individual AC in each room.
* Bathroom is small, however this is made up for by the on site onsen.
* The onsens (1 M, 1 F) are indoors. While they are not anything special, they are in your own hotel and are a welcome end to a day on snow.
Breakfast is basic, but satisfactory. There is certainly enough to eat and it quite tasty. Expect it to be the Japanese take on a western breakfast.
* They note dietary requirements and adjust accordingly (we travelled with vegetarians)
* A courtesy shuttle bus to the Goryu ticket/lift office departs regularly from the hotel carpark. There is an alternate route that leaves from the end of the street (about 100m walk).
* There are about a dozen restaurants in easy walking distance to the hotel.

All in all, we had a great snow holiday, despite our set backs, and it was made all the better by the efforts of Hotel Montblanc Hakuba's staff.

Great job guys and thank you again sincerely for making our holiday an incredibly enjoyable experience.

We stayed for 10 nights and hands down the best service we've had! The owner, Kenji-san, was very accommodating. He drove us himself few times to Happo One, Tsugaki and even to the bus stop on the day we checked out. The manager, Souza, just the best guy. He and his team provided us with whatever we needed and made sure our stay was pleasant. I asked for soy milk for coffee and the next day I was provided one which was always ready whenever we showed up for breakfast. We requested for soft pillow and we're given the softest! We regret having dinner at their restaurant only once, on our last night, as the food was great. We had the best gyoza! I recommend having dinner here and booking your ski/snowboard passes as they give discounted rate. They arrange a drop off and pick up if you want to go to Happo One or Tsugaki if you're in a group of 4 or more, which was very convenient. Hotel is walking distance to Iimori/Goryu snow resort. Close to other restaurants and bars too. On our last day we were given a lovely present made locally. I'd like to thank the whole staff for making our stay very pleasant! Definitely recommending Hotel Montblanc to everyone!

Couldn't ask for a better place. The manager Soulza was super friendly and accommodating and spoke great English. He really went out of his way to ensure our stay was comfortable. Never stayed in a hotel with such good personal attention! Discounted lift tickets were purchased through the hotel and even train station transfers and lifts to other ski resorts were all sorted through the hotel. Made the stay much more enjoyable and relaxing. They booked restaurants although I wish I ate more at the hotel - the food was better than everywhere else we tried. Breakfast was served up every day with slight varieties. The hotel was always clean and included a ski storage room and free washing! Just had to pay a couple hundred yen for drying. Location was amazing - free buses to Goryu from outside hotel or a 10min walk. Highly recommended!!!

Stayed again at Hotel Mont Blanc this month. Everything you could ever need to make an enjoyable skiing holiday is provided at this hotel. Great onsen for after skiing, drying room, washing facilities, clean comfortable rooms, good heating, thoughtful breakfasts, but the best part of all is the wonderful service provided by hotel management. Soulza and Kenji can help you with everything and make it all so easy. The hotel is so well situated as well. Shuttle bus to slopes (a five minute drive) is right outside the door so there are no big treks in your ski gear. Restaurants either within walking distance or they offer to take you to ones that are further away. Trips to grocery store organised for you. They also help and advise you with your further travel. They think of everything you need to make a comfortable stay in Japan.

I stayed at Mont Blanc recently for a week within a group of 6 in the traditional Japanese styled room (you can pick western styled too), after heaps of recommendations from friends to stay here I can see why. The attention to detail delivered by Soulza and his team was incredible, they always went above and beyond what was required of them to make sure you always felt at ease . Whether it was picking you up from bus stops in their own shuttle, or giving recommendations and making reservations on your behalf they did it.

If you want to stay somewhere that has a chilled out atmosphere, has a 3min bus ride to goryu ski lifts (plus discount), an awesome onsen at the hotel, sweet restaurant/ bars near by then just do it, you won't regret it.

If you need a haircut too Soulza has got your back, gotta look fresh on the mountain right?
