Vanity Hotel and Spa - THANK YOU!

This was our first visit, it will not be our last. I hope other travellers find this comprehensive review helpful, and there are a couple of suggestions I hope Vicente Requena and the rest of the management team will note.

BOOKING:
My husband and I were looking for a good deal.wih direct flights from our home in Edinburgh. We got a nice rate for a Royal Terrace Suite, booked just 4 weeks before travel on Last-minute.com.

AIRPORT TRANSFER:
We booked the transfer as part of the online booking, and it was fulfilled by Transunion. Quoted transfer time of 1h35min became 2h30 on the outward journey and 3h05 on the return journey - so decide if those transfer times are worth the cheaper cost compared to a taxi.

CHECK IN:
Ana Maria greeted us with a huge smile and a glass of cava. She was BRILLIANT. Took us to our room herself and showed us everything we needed to know. THANK YOU ANA MARIA!

GENERAL AMBIENCE:
Vanity is a LOVELY resort. Clean, so clean. Bright, verdant and calm. The pool area (and every area!) Is kept incredibly clean. We loved all the plants and flowers.

LANGUAGE:
We always spoken Spanish where able, even if just to say "hola" and "gracias". We were astonished at the number of guests (predominantly German), who just spoke their mother tongue to the staff, rather than even using rudimentary Spanish. Staff all have flags on their badges to show what languages they speak. We found we would be spoken to in German, without fail, even if we threw in a delebrate "good evening", or "please", so conversations were an interesting German-Spanish exchange. Definitely felt like German guests predominated, but English, French, Spanish and others were also present.

ROOM:
Our Royal Terrace Suite was AMAZING. perfect. Huge. Clean. The bed was a massive super king double (not twin mattresses stuck together). There was bottles water every day, a Nespresso machine, loads of toiletries including a sewing kit, shaving kit, dental kit, shower hat. Hairdryer weak but accessible. Bedside clock has usb inputs for charging your phone (brilliant!). TV has HDMI input for casting Netflix etc if you bring a cable. Room is cleaned every morning and also a turndown service in the evening. The rooftop terrace that is part of the royal terrace suite is fantastic. A huge area, partially covered, with loungers, a sofa, jacuzzi, Balinese bed and shower. We spent hours and hours up there every day. Stunning views over the beach and mountains from building 6. Jose the pool man visited daily to check the quality of the jacuzzi water. No issues with suntan lotion clogging it up, which I note has been negatively mentioned in previous reviews. We always rinsed off in the shower first and no issues.

FOOD AND DRINK:
Breakfast buffet perfect. Huge huge range of hot and cold good, including a range of 4 plant milks (almond, rice, oat and soy), and seeds including chia, millet, linseed. And gorgeous fruit displays. Also urns of water, lemon water and herb water. As a lover of healthy breakfasts, these were very much appreciated.
Lunch poolside was good, with a varied menu and generally swift service. Lunch upstairs in the restaurant a little more hit and miss and one day we sat for 25 minutes before being acknowledged, despite making eye contact with lots of staff (they were busy).
Dinner buffet fantastic, and I question any review that says they couldn't find something to eat. The range of food was consistently brilliant. And a whole range of vegan options. VANITY HOTEL IS BRILLIANT FOR VEGANS. I don't think this is advertised enough.

Loads of drinks, soft drink and alcoholic on the all inclusive option - including the ability to ask for a bottle of cava for the room to take away from the bar.

NEARBY: 5 mins walk to beach, crowded, and 2 supermarkets. Lots of walks and coastal adventures.

SPECIAL THANKS:
All the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, thank you all.
ANA MARIA for her perfect welcome.
JOSE for his friendly pool maintenance every day.
JOFFRE a trainee waiter - he is an asset and very hard working - I hope his opportunities in the hotel support him to go far, WELL DONE JOFFRE!
MARCEL for his enthusiastic guided walks, such a friendly guy , and an impressive polyglot.
AMALIA for her brilliant housekeeping for our suite. Always with a smile.

2 SUGGESTIONS FOR VICENTE REQUENA:
As you can see, we LOVED our stay and will be back to Vanity. However, there are 2 specific things I want to raise. The first has been mentioned in many previous reviews, and sadly despite assurances it would be addressed, it hasn't:
DRESS CODE - there is a clearly displayed dress code for dinner and lunch in the restaurant - but we saw it disobeyed dozens of times a day. Flip flops, shorts, swimwear, wet hair. If you are going to have a dress code, PLEASE enforce it - otherwise it is pointless and unfair.

The second issue was particularly upsetting for us, coming from a country (Scotland) with very progressive laws - SMOKING. There is NOWHERE outside to sit smoke-free. Lunch at the poolside bar is all outside, and smoking seems to be allowed everywhere outside, even under the heavy canopy. It is disgusting and unhealthy to subject guests (including heavily pregnant women) to what became significant passive smoke, without an option to move to a no smoking area. When we did relent and try to move away from smokers, we were soon joined by more smokers at adjacent tables. It really negatively impacted our stay.
Surely, surely, it would be reasonable to set up a non-smoking area for the poolside bar?

We stayed 14 days at this hotel in a Junior privilege suite.

The room was large with comfortable king size bed. The bathroom was partially open plan with 2 sinks, large mirror and hairdryer in the bedroom area but the shower room and toilet were thankfully completely private with a solid door, I have stayed in hotels where there has just been a glass door which I find slightly disconcerting.

There were patio doors leading out to a small garden with 2 chairs, table, 2 full sized loungers, and a hammock.

The room was kept spotlessly clean by the wonderfully happy Eleni, our towels beach and bathroom were changed daily, and a large bottle of water left every day.

The restaurant was very spacious, with a very good ambiance, the food choice very varied and the service excellent. The wine was drinkable, I did find the Rose preferable to the White wine.

The bar areas were very comfortable with plenty of chairs always available, likewise the pool area, and the sun beds were the most comfortable I have ever experienced in any hotel, no aching backs.

The gardens were beautiful, the open spaces kept so neat and tidy by the gardeners, everybody loved the moving stork sculptures, everytime we walked past, they were nodding away.

The staff were amazing, so helpful and pleasant, a big thanks to all of you especially our cleaner Eleni, the bar staff, Artorus, Lara, Pedro, Sumi, in fact everybody who works there you all helped to make this a very special holiday for us.

This is indeed a very special hotel, which suited us so well, it was comfortable, quiet, with good food and drink and lovely staff.

We will return.

We have just returned from a weeks break having stayed in one of the Royal Terrace rooms. The room was amusing and spacious, exceptionally clean and well equipped. The hotel was very clean, the staff were all very friendly. Sometimes the service for the bar and lunchtime service outside was very slow but this was more down to the lack of staff on duty that the individuals performance. All the waiters & waitresses work very long hours and do a good job. The food choice was plentiful and there were many choices at breakfast and dinner, the only downside was the food was never very hot from the buffet unless you were lucky enough to get there just as it was put out. The clearing of tables in the dining room was slow so when you went for another course you would come back and still dirty plates would be left on the table unfortunately. The entertainment in the evenings was hit and miss, some evenings were very good others no so!! If you want a place to relax this hotel is ideal, the beach is close by and is lovely and clean but very busy. They were showing the World Cup on a big screen so no one missed out. For a weeks break away from it all this hotel was a good choice but 7 nights was enough for us. The bed in our room was huge and very comfortable, we were asked if we wanted a kettle on arrival and it appeared in our room along with a selection of T-bags although if you like English tea I would recommend you take your own, we had a large bottle of water delivered in the room every day.

Room Tip: you cannot fault the Royal Terrace suites

What a great hotel our third visit. All the staff are brilliant so helpful and always smiling. Such a relaxing holiday with a great beach. Although a lot more naked sunbathing on beach (far end). Love to visit this resort/ hotel enjoyed every minute. Visit Arta for market on Tuesdays. Loads of great walks Cala Torta is a great beach to walk to. We look forward to coming back.

Room Tip: Go for a garden room so much more relaxing than by the pool.

Check-in was quick, easy and a pleasant experience. We were greeted with a glass of cold Cava from Boba whilst the lovely receptionist, Ana, completed our check-in. (We had previously emailed the hotel to express a wish to upgrade to a Royal Suite as there were none available through the Tui site and this had been sorted for us prior to arrival). Boba took our luggage and escorted us to our suite. Housekeeping attended at different times each day throughout the week, plus a member of the maintenance team had to check the hot tub twice a day, every day. We estimated that the hotel was at half capacity, so there were plenty of sun beds available at all times during our stay. The grounds of the hotel were very pleasant and well maintained. The restaurant staff were efficient and friendly, there were lots of tables to choose from and the standard and variety of food on offer was very good. Our suite overlooked the conservation area and we had a partial sea view to the left. We had one problem during our stay; there was a strong smell of 'drains' in our bathroom. This was dealt with effectively and swiftly by the hotel maintenance staff. There had been rain the previous day and we were told that this may have contributed to the problem. Overall, we would thoroughly recommend this hotel - our stay was excellent and we look forward to returning in the future.

Room Tip: Upgrading to a Royal Suite is well worth the additional cost.
