Magical!

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 11 Oct 2020via mobile
We stayed at the Chateau for a yoga teacher training over 3 weeks. The property is huge, has amazing grounds, and lead to various nature trails in the mountains or along the river. The chateau itself is gorgeous. It has retained its historical character, and despite being built in the late 1700, it is incredibly comfortable. All rooms and living rooms are tastefully decorated. Beds are highly comfortable. The kitchen is ginormous which means there’s ample space to cook for over 30 people. There’s a sauna, jacuzzi, and a well-equipped gym. My favourite part of the Chateau was the conservatory which was so cozy when it rained, and so warm and luminous when the sun was out. A huge thanks to David, Hiroko, and especially Anne and François who catered for everything we needed, and were thoughtful in every way (in particular the handmade all natural soaps which Anne makes so beautifully!).

We had a very enjoyable extended family holiday at Chateau Rhodes at end July/beginning August. It was a large party of at least 3 generations & we all fitted comfortably into the Chateau & grounds & made full use of the tennis court & pool. The environment is very attractive, the Chateau & it's rooms are just as depicted in the photos & there are pleasant walks to be had 'round about. The nearby village has a boulangerie with lovely cakes! Foix is nearby & has the Intermarche which I recommend. There are pretty towns to visit & the caves.
I certainly recommend holidaying in this beautiful Chateau with its huge, private grounds & its relative closeness to Toulouse Airport for ease of journeying to & from.
The chill fridge room needs a mention, perfect place for storing your food & white wine, every home should have one!
I love France!

Dear Fenella,
I'm sorry that we didn't get a chance to meet in person. I really appreciate your comments. We worked hard to make the chateau both a historical and fun venue for all. Actually, the rooms should be better than the photos since I haven't changed them but have added quite a few antiques and paintings to the rooms. Thanks for the review and please feel welcome to join us again. David

It is always good when your arrival is accompanied by a slight indraw of breath,as you first catch sight. This is a proper and powerful looking building situated at the end of a long drive. Very peaceful and with lots of space, facilitites, and things to be done. We were part of a big group and there was plenty of room for every one, either to join in or find a special quiet place of their own. As we explored we kept finding rooms full of surprises.and then, of course, the Fitness Building was a real "Yikes " look what is here moment. We did take advantage of the dinner prepared by a chef and very good it was too. I love walk in Fridges and the fact that there were more than enough decent glasses. Our Familly had a proper holiday helped by the weather and of course the swimming pool. We did take the chance to go for several local drives and spme of the surrounding scenery and road passes were as good as you will find anywhere. All in all a great find.

Dear Jeremy.
Thank you for your kind comments. I'm glad the chateau exceeded your expectations. The gym is our newest addition. We are glad you enjoyed the cooking facilities. As you know, we have a proper professional kitchen with a walk in fridge because of the number of guests we can accommodate we need to have sufficient refrigeration space. Thank you again for joining us!!

Had a great day at the Chateau with the whole family. Really suited all our abs our children’s needs; pool, tennis court, gym and so much more! The grounds are beautiful also. Rooms are lovely and spacious with en-suites. Staff were great and professional, we had the chef catering our dinner. He was amazing! Definitely recommend.

We very much enjoyed our visit to Chateau Rodes. The Chateau is well situated in a lovely part of France at the bottom of the Pyrenees. The environs are beautiful, trees and a river. The chateau is well appointed with furniture, cooking facilities numerous reception rooms, a games room, sauna, jim (if you like that sort of thing) and will sleep about thirty. We spent a considerable time together in the conservatory with a large table that will seat thirty over numerous dinners and lunches. We were mostly family, relatives of all ages from bambinos to those in their near dotage although you wouldn't know it. we had some fantastic tennis on the excellent hard court (near Wimbledon standard by some participants). There is a swimming pool that was much enjoyed and this could have been larger and not so deep at one end with a particularly small shallow end. It looked a bit tired ! to be truthful. highly recommendable.
A couple of improvements might be suggested. Soap etc in bathrooms not provided. Weekly laundry change not provided if Chateau taken for two weeks. The bed in the main bedroom on the first floor has and end (not good for tall people)
and a dodgy mattress.

Dear Patrick,
Thank you for your review. Jeremy also left a review and mentioned the mattress issue and swimming pool needing a bit of renovation. We have taken these comments under advisement and will certainly remedy the mattress. The bed is indeed a 19 century bed frame that looks lovely. The actual size of the mattress is a normal double mattress but because of the headboard, I could see that perhaps for someone very tall, it could be an issue. Of course, we have 14 other bedrooms that don't have this issue, so I will make sure to let tall people know not to choose Bedroom 1 on the first floor. In fact in Room 9 and Room 10, we have a 6 ft x 6ft mattress (US King Size-- the mattress was imported from the US), so it is more than adequate. You mentioned the soap issue and this was an oversight on our part. I have spoken to the staff and since and hereinafter, there shall be soap in each room. I do apologize for that oversight. We do have a sheets change after one week upon request. I'm thinking perhaps you had some rooms that changed over (with guests coming and going) so we had to change more than once. Your group was the only 2 week group this year but I do understand the concern. We had a comment from a group as well, about the quality of the sheets. We use high quality cotton (5 star hotel quality) sheets and we have them professionally laundered every week. We endeavor to provide top quality to our guests. Thank you again for your comments Patrick. Much appreciated.
