Review of Hotel de France
3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 20 Aug 2017
We stayed here for 4 nights in August. The hotel was very clean and comfortable. The decor is very dated, and is in need of some new decor. We only had breakfast every day so cant give an opinion on the food. The hotel was fairly busy at lunchtimes and on an evening which indicates its popularity..We would stay again

This small hotel is well-known for its cassoulet, but the entrée of crevettes with mayonnaise is also superb. They normally offer a menu du jour but one can also order from the carte, where there are many more choices. Located on a quiet street in Chalabre, the restaurant serves classically French fare and the meals are excellent.

Room tip: I eat there when I am in Chalabre but I've never stayed there.

Enjoyed a hearty and reasonable three course meal at the Hotel de France in Chalabre. An excellent foie gras was followed by an outstanding regional cassoulet. The dessert, a fruit salad, was little underwhelming but, overall, a very good meal for the price.

We ate here twice during our 2 week stay and were not disappointed. The food is fresh and authentic to the region as is the wine list. The foie gras was delicious.
The service was good and the young waiter was very polite.
We look forward to our next visit.

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights as it's a good location for visiting Carcassonne, Foix and Mirepoix. The room badly needed decorating, there was a TV (French only), no hairdryer. It's also a restaurant/bar, Didier the Manager is very pleasant, he is the Chef, we had 2 evening meals which were excellent, couldn't fault the cooking or portion sizes. The place is closed at funny times, wanted a drink at 6.30 pm but bar was closed! Dinner isn't served until 7.45pm and as this appears to be the only restaurant in Chalabre there is no option if you want to eat early. One evening the shutters were down as if closed so not a good ad for passers by.

Room tip: Had room on first floor, traffic noise around 7.30 but as a small town not a problem.
