This was our second time staying at The House at Temple Sowerby and again they did not disappoint! It is such a beautiful and inviting building which is only made more welcoming by its staff. The rooms are large in size with very comfortable beds.

We only had a quick stay so we didn't have enough time to have a proper look around but the large garden at the back looks stunning and there are spaces to keep and repair bikes (if you are looking for a bike-friendly hotel).

The hotel is more than dog-friendly they are dog-welcoming with a doggy-bag being given out on arrival.

The cooked breakfast is DELICIOUS! So don't even think about leaving early and missing it. I can't even decide what was the best thing about it as every inch of the plate was fantastic.

Thank you so very much for leaving this wonderful review. We are very aware that for many travelling at the moment, it will be the first time being away from home in a long while. Even more important for us to make everyone feel comfortable and welcome.

And we do agree, that our breakfasts are amazing!

Hope to see you again soon.

Fantastic room, large bathroom, comfy bed!
Breakfast was homemade and they catered for vegans well. The homemade smoky beans were delicious!

A wonderful place to stay. Beautiful historic house and garden and village location with easy nearby walks and sights.

The owners, Alison and Andy, are very friendly, and accommodating of their guest's needs.

The food is delicious and home made and the rooms are comfortable and clean.

A perfect setting for a yoga retreat and relaxation in general. I will definitely be returning for another stay!

Comfortable Room, excellent homemade style breakfast. Friendly, welcoming staff, quirky building, decent room with ‘spa’ bath. Homemade shortbread on arrival (wrapped). Only small issues were mattress was very unsupportive and perhaps needed replacing and dirty phone in the room, otherwise would recommend and definitely stay again.

Room tip: Pay extra for the good rooms. Definitely have breakfast - one of the best I’ve ever had. There’s a chip van on selected evenings available.

We had a fantastic stay. The staff were so friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. A must for any travellers with dogs. Our dog was given a gift bag and even a sausage at breakfast! The 2 course breakfast for us was also amazing. We will definitely be returning.
