Fornelli is one of the most beautifully maintained medieval towns in Italy; there is a reason that the government has designated it as among the 'most beautiful towns in Italy'. This is a truly authentic place and a welcome departure from the usual tourist traps. The town is easily walkable, fully inhabited, and features some great artisanal shops, restaurants and pubs. The Castello itself is spacious and blessed with plenty of light, this living place never feels claustrophobic or like a museum. There is a wonderful Pizzeria at the entrance of the Castello, a number of fabulous community pubs, beautifully maintained churches, friendly and helpful people who are very happy to discuss the history of this place, and frequent colorful and unique festivals. Further, from wherever one stands on the outer part of the Borgo, there are spectacular views of the valleys of the region and of the Mainarde Mountains which turn different colors during the day, dependent on the position of the sun. There are numerous seasonal festivals, concerts, and other public events, each with its own character. There is never a bad time of year to visit this hidden gem. Visit this place now before the word gets out.
