This is the fifth Christmas train journey we have done in a row and because of this dreadful year, it has been the best. The staff here have improved the experience year-on-year, but this year was excellent.
From arriving at the station to leaving, the experience was excellently organised. Every member of staff made us welcome and meeting Santa was exciting for my 7 year old so. Those staff in costume played their parts very well, and this staff not in uniform joined in very well (the younger staff were excellent!)
On board, we were socially distanced and received a hot chocolate and goody bag.
I believe there are still tickets. I can highly recommend this experience. Heaven knows, it was most welcome!
We booked the picnic with Santa.
Cold cheap Mince pies in plastic wrapping on arrival.
Carriage poorly decorated and no atmosphere on the train.
Food for 3 including a child was like the kind of food you would get from Iceland. Nasty looking pastries and sandwiches poor.
Very disappointed after spending £82 for three. The gift included a cheap plastic knitting set for 6+ when my daughter has just turned 5. My partner and I couldn't even figure it out. German writing on the box?!
Never again.. we will stick to the polar express next time.!!!
Being a key worker I was so looking forward to this treat for us all.
Avoid at all cost.!!!
Boring, short train journey, with a long stop in the middle of a field near Embsay with nothing to do or see. Children constantly asking why the train isn't moving as the journey itself, in total including return, is only about 30 minutes, the rest is sitting and waiting in various places. We did the Halloween special and whilst I think they tried to create entertainment, it just wasn't professional and didn't quite come off. There are many other, far better train journeys within 30 miles of this one and much more worth the effort - try the East Lancs Railway - that's worth a journey...
What a lovely experience on a wet and cold day. We were on the "afternoon tea" train. We sat in the first class carriage at the rear and was served a really fresh and scrumptious afternoon tea by a delightful young lady called Amelia. Thanks to all the staff for a pleasurable journey.
Boring! Really disappointed! Took my two children 2 and 6 years, both were bored and kept asking when it was finishing! Boring route, same there and back, long wait at Bolton Abbey - for nothing. Nil excitement!
First class carriage was smelly and damp, not very first class at all. A waste of money!
It was a wonderful trip in the Queen Victoria coach on this gorgeous steam train. We had afternoon tea and the food was lovely, the service was great, very clean and covid savvy. I shall certainly be returning.
