What a an amazing, unexpected treat to visit Lucca and this family owned pasta factory. He was more than happy to give us a tour of the small factory including tastes of the pasta coming off the line. Pasta can not be purchased at the factory, but there are a few shops in Lari that sell it, as well as a few restaurants that use it on their menu. Wonderful and fun experience. Took maybe 15 minutes.

What a great place. A working pasta factory right in the middle of a medieval fortified town. Guided by a very friendly Luca. Give him notice of intended walking tour via email.

We didn't know what expect on our trip to Lari however, it turned out to be one of the highlights of our holiday in Tuscany. We ventured to the pasta factory and enquired about a tour. We have a six year old boy. Lucca made us more than welcome and explained and showed us how they made their very special pasta. Luckily they were making spaghetti so we enjoyed a special treat! After this we had a wonderful lunch in the restaurant in the main square. Be sure to buy some pasta from the shop to take home and remember your visit for every meal.

We've visited the pasta factory from Familia Martelli so see how handmade pasta is being produced. And we weren't disappointed.

We saw almost the whole process how the pasta is being made. And it didn't even cost something. This kind of pasta should always be preferred. This is made with love and in a small family business!

We stopped at Lari on the way from Pisa to Florence. The town itself is very nice and has lots of character and history. The tour was another thing. Whilst it was interesting to learn that the pasta is rough in texture, which is good for holding a sauce, and what made it rough. The tour was all of 5-7 minutes long. I wasn't impressed. They can make it far more engaging if they put some more thought into it. Whilst the guy giving us a tour (if you can call it that) pointed out where we can buy the pasta at home they missed a trick by not directing us to their gift shop. It felt like doing the tour was a chore he couldn't get out of. I would pop in only if you happened to be in the town. I would not go out of my way to visit it.

Dear Mr. I'm the person that guded You into the factory. The visit at our factory is only a possibility that we give at the turist, it is not a part of our work. We can dedicate a few minutes to explain the pasta process and to see the machinaries. Your though is strange because many many visitors are satisfacted of the tour an many return to see again after few years.

At Your disposal

Luca Martelli
