“Delays extremely frequent”
Review of Regional Express Airlines

Have flown from Mildura to Melbourne several times. Service onboard is reasonable, no frills, and about what you might expect from a regional airline. I have had no issues with that.

The main problem is the frequency and magnitude of delays. Unfortunately the delays are frequent and usually an hour or so. This time the delay was bad enough that I missed several other appointments and had to reschedule them, costing a fortune in terms of having to rebook several of them.

I'd generally avoid them unless delays are not a concern. Unfortunately they seem to have a monopoly with regard to takeoff and landing slots in Mildura airpirt - neither Virgin or Qantas has the evening slots after 5.30pm, which lets you fly after work.

As such, we sincerely apologise for the disruption experienced during your recent travels with Regional Express (Rex) from Mildura to Melbourne. We appreciate it would have been very frustrating regardless of your reason for travel.

While delays are certainly not a desirable option, we are at times unable to avoid schedule changes. We regret any inconvenience caused to your personal schedule. It is for this reason that Rex recommends passengers purchase appropriate travel insurance to cover any unforseen eventualities.

Flying from Orange to Perth via Sydney takes many hours of rigours driving through Sydney to Airport and saves five or six hours. Rex gets there in 35 minutes and its a short bus transfer from the tarmac to terminal. They fly SAAB turbo prop which are loud inside and seats don't recline.
They are expensive for the short trip unless you book way earlier.

As with most turbo prop aircrafts, our fleet of Saab 340 aircraft have capacity restrictions given their size, and also tend to be louder than jet engine aircraft. Passengers are welcome to request earplugs from cabin crew to assist with excess noise if they wish.

Regional express from Armidale are constantly running on a delayed schedule. On my last trip from armidale to Sydney on 28th of June the fligh was delayed by 2 hours with no messages or emails to notify us of this delay, a delay which they knew about from the previous night. This is absolutely ridiculous exspecially on a weekday where people have work commitments. To make things worse the Staff at the checkin had no empathy and was not apolegetic at all delvering the delayed departure message as thoughs it was a common occurence. This will be the last time i take this flight. I would like to inform anyone that if you have to be at a place within a particular time i Strongly discourage you from taking this flight as it frequently disapoints you with their timing.

One of the things we strive for, which generally sets us apart from other airlines, is to provide an extra level of service, including that personal detail stemming from our heritage of good old fashioned country service and friendliness. It is therefore very disappointing you feel such service was not provided to you.

When a flight is delay is known in advance, the Rex Customer Contact Centre (CCC) makes every attempt to advise passengers as soon as possible. This is done by way of a call or SMS text message to passengers who have provided a mobile phone number, or a call for passengers who have only provided a land line number. However, this is sometimes not possible due to a number of reasons; for example, if there is no contact phone number or an incorrect number in the booking, or the customer is out of range. We regret that our CCC was unable to contact you about the delay to your flight.

This airline seems to be a well oiled machine. We left on time in a small but clean aircraft with a friendly staff, had a smooth ride with slick landings, day and night.

First time flying Regional express, didn’t even realise they existed until now as I needed to get to Albury. Previously I either hired a car and drive the 3.5hrs from Melbourne or flew to NSW then take a connecting flight to Albury which takes about 4-5hrs.. so hearing it’ll only take an hour by REX was really good.
T4 terminal @ Melbourne airport and short wait for flight which was on time.
Crew and pilot greet passengers as they board the plane and flight was without issues.. I thought it would be quite choppy being a small two engine plane but the ride was quite smooth.. the only compliant would be the loudness of the engines which is quite deafening, best to put on some ear phones and listen to music. No food or drinks on the plane so you’ll need to BYO. Love the single seater, not having to share elbow room with anyone was really comfortable and having both an Aisle and Window seat was a win win.
Carry on cannot exceed 7kgs (total) so had to check my small luggage which normally I take onboard the larger planes, which meant I had to checkin as well as wait for luggage after we land - which wasn’t too bad.. wait time was about 5mins so much better than the larger planes which could take approximately 30-45mins.

The Rex fleet comprises of Saab 340 aircraft, and as with most small turbo prop aircraft, they have capacity restrictions given their size, and also tend to be louder than jet engine aircraft. Passengers are welcome to request earplugs from cabin crew to assist with excess noise if they wish. As with other airlines, we are also required to commit to outlined carry-on and check-in baggage requirements.

We do provide tea and coffee as well as a complimentary sweet or savoury snack to passengers on most journeys over 20 minutes. We apologise that this was not available on your flight.
