I am back. The one who had to deal with the inept buffoon at the counter on January 20.
Now for a full review of this horrendous experience that practically ruined our vacation.
When I last reported, it was the same evening and my luggage was M.I.A.
Well, I did get my bag eventually. SIX days after I arrived.
And the only reason we were able to track it down was due to the diligence of Air TRANSAT. Luckily, I still had an old sticker from a previous trip on my bag. It wound up in Transat's lost baggage department who scanned it and actually called my phone number on my I.D. tag.
Meaning that although Sunwing told me on the 20th that they'd found it and put a destination sticker on it so I would get it in Montego Bay, they lied and had never found it.
So thanks to our travel agent hounding them in Toronto, they ended up sending it on the 22nd. But despite the fact that they said they were sending it right to our hotel, they only sent it to Montego Bay Airport with nothing more than a cardboard tag with my wife's name and cell # on it. So it sat in MBJ for another 4 days before we got confirmation from our travel agent that it was indeed waiting for us on the airport, and WE would have to come pick it up ourselves. Luckily, MBJ was only a 1/2 hour away and the hotel sent us in a courtesy van. Not Sunwing, the hotel.
So here's the thing, Sunwing had to give me a daily allowance of $100 U.S. the first day and $50 every subsequent day the bag was missing. Which we did get, but only after chasing down the Sunwing rep "Hubert" at the hotel multiple times daily. And one of the Nexus reps at the hotel was even less help than he was. I can't begin to tell you how many treks I made to the lobby to see if I could find him. So much time wasted.
Now, onto the flight to MBJ itself. We paid for Elite Plus Service, which meant more leg room. WRONG! My wife and I were sat in Row 2. Which places a wall right in front of your feet. I'm 6' 3". There was less room there than a normal row. Plus the seat was so narrow, I practically had to ask the flight attendant for some butter so I could grease down my sides. I did get very lucky though, and the three seats next to me (not Elite ) were empty, and I just sat in them for the whole flight. Still a tight fit for my legs, but I least I could put them across.
Don't waste your money on Elite Plus Service.
If there is anything good to be said about this Airline, is that the young girl in Montego Bay who checked our bags to come home was very sweet and helpful. And because now our bags were overweight do to my new clothes I had to buy, she was going to charge us for the weight... until we told her what happened and she immediately changed her mind.
As far as the flight home goes, the flight attendants looked like they were on the way to their own funeral. I don't think any of them smiled the whole time. I even said Hello to one and was met with a blank stare.
And three out of the four of us travelling contracted some weird stomach bug/cough on the flight home as well. We were fine in the Airport and all felt really ill by the time we landed. So I don't know what was in the air, but I'd be interested to see if anyone else contracted anything.
Never ever again will I use Sunwing. And thanks again to Air Transat for doing Sunwing's job by finding my bag.
